Executive Summary

Arnold Palmer Hospital first opened its doors in 1989. The initial donations to start the
new hospital came from Arnold and Winnie Palmer. The two lent their name and assisted
with fundraising, eventually the team decided to refurbish an old hospital building and
construct an adjoining building of 160,000 square feet.

The major problems a manager faces are the floor designation and laborious process of
the maternity patients’ admission. In the Arnold Palmer Hospital, the rooms are not
properly designated and in case of any emergency, the patients need to be shifted many
times up and down. Also, due to the lengthy process of admission.

II. Statement of The Problem

Arnold Palmer Hospital aims to establish an efficient process of accommodating patients

who are about to give birth, but they are having difficulties due to the scattered and
improper designation of floor which results to the inconvenience of patients for having been
transferred from one floor to another.

The possible cause of the problem is the distance between the facilities which wastes
critical time and man power. The hospital’s project manager and administration team took
the time to carefully strategize the plan to optimize the efficiency of operations.

III. Causes of the Problem

Although this case focuses on child birth, the hospital offers other services to which
it allocates space and resources. The major problem of Arnold Palmer Hospital lies on
their facilities and admission process.

Distance of the facilities in the hospital is caused by the scattered location wherein
the response time to efficiently serve the patients is taking so long. Another cause is the
mismanagement of the operation which leads to the lengthy process of admission.

The researchers concluded that the solution will be the designation of the floors
according to the services they offer. For example, labor wards will be on the first floor
and the other services are in the next corresponding floors. By this, it will be easier for
the doctors and nurses to attend quickly to serve their patients.

IV. Decision Criteria and Alternative Solution

The researchers that conducted this case study considered the time for
implementation, estimated costs to be incurred, benefits that would arise,
additional profit that would be gained, and the effect to the financial institution
in formulating the recommended solution.
The suggested solution is facility management, in order for the hospital to manage its
location efficiently and effectively and also give comfort and convenience for the patients
entering in. The operation
