Overview
Topic and Overarching Goal:
My topic for this activity is “creative mathematics.” In my personal education mathematics has been intimidating and difficult to
achieve. Becoming an early education teacher helped me to understand why children need to start early into their mathematics
preparation with the support of professional teachers. In the first years children begin understanding symbols and concepts in an
abstract way. They basically are learning by senses and experiencing ideas using hands on materials which are interesting and fun to
play with. The most important thing I have learned from my textbook is that mathematics are everywhere in our everyday lives.
My goal with this activity is to contribute in some way in the development of the children who will attend it. It is my goal that parents
can feel confident that their children are in the right place and learning in the correct way. I will love to add fun to this activity,
because this experience is also for me as a student-teacher who has found math to be challenging.
Activity Description: What are you doing for your activity? Describe in very specific step-by-step detail,
using numbers or bullets. Write descriptions as if you will be giving instructions to a substitute teacher:
1. I want to create an activity with a parachute and objects such as shapes (circles, squares, triangles, etc.)
numbers, balls, etc. We can count the items before putting them on the top of the parachute and after we shake
them on the parachute.
2. - The children will identify them. We will repeat this action as many times as they want. · This activity
represent and opportunity for parents, teachers and children to develop social interactions. Children, parents and
teachers, will accommodate the materials in the center of the parachute and through them into the air. I hope this
will be a fun experience. · We can count the pieces of material which stay on the parachute and find those which
fall on the floor. These simple activities will help them to improve their counting and communication.
3.-The children will engage with other children and learn together that mathematics are everywhere and that it
can be fun to learn.
What places outdoors will you be utilizing? I will utilize the playground located in the west side of the
building with grass and trees. I want to avoid any child harm in case if they full down. I will need a table to put
my materials on.
List the materials you would like to have the lab school supply:

Note: I spoke with my teachers in the Lab about this activity and they liked this idea.
