In our presentation we are going to talk about steps you can take to prevent the spread of
communicable, non- airborne illnesses in your day-to-day life. There are many approaches that
we will address that will help prevent contagious diseases from spreading. These include
washing your hands thoroughly, learning proper coughing etiquette, and using germ eliminating
products.
When properly washing your hands, lather your hands with water and an antibacterial
soap. Make sure to cover both the entire surface area of your hands and between your fingers.
After 20 seconds have passed you should dry your hands using a paper or cloth towel if they are
available. Use your towel to turn off the water faucet and open the bathroom door when you are
finished instead of your hands to ensure your hands stay clean.
When you cough you are expelling tiny microparticles which can contain germs that can
infect those around you. When coughing, therefore, you have to cover your mouth with a tissue
(if available) or your inner elbow. This is important as it prevents the microparticles from being
transmitted through the air. Be sure not to use your hands as a cough buffer as this can be a way
to easily spread germs without realizing it. By coughing correctly we keep our germs to
ourselves.
