Healing Hands and Breath Techniques

Welcome to the Soulspirational Wellness Studio’s Healing Hands and Breath techniques. These
techniques were designed to bring attention to your body’s natural-born ability to heal. Simply by
being alive, by breathing, by being aware, we can help ourselves heal.

We’re going to practice how we can use the power of the mind in combination with the hands and
breath to aid in healing. What healing means will be unique to each person. For some, it may be a
reduction in pain, or stress relief, or it may even bring insight into which areas in your life could benefit
from additional help from a physician or mental health provider.

Universal Life Force Energy, known to many as ki, qi, chi, prana, is part of all of us. In Traditional
Chinese Medicine, it is believed this life force energy is stored in the kidneys. As a reiki master
practitioner, I’m going to show you how to draw the energy in from God, or Source energy, above. This
can help protect our energy.

Before you begin, I suggest having a journal handy so you can log your experiences.

Healing Hands
Notice what you do when you have a headache. Most of us immediately put our hand on the part of
the head that hurts. Have a belly ache? Do you place your hands on your belly? Has someone around
you, for example, fallen down and bruised their knee? Did you instinctively reach out to touch it?

When we are hurt, we instinctively place our healing hands on the part(s) that hurt. Now, I’m not
saying you will be able to fix a broken bone with your healing hands or make your diabetes go away.
You can, however, possibly treat some of the symptoms of these issues. You’ll discover during this class
how the combination of your hands and breath could ease some pain or symptoms.

Before you begin…

Wash your hands. If possible, you should always cleanse your hands before you begin. Think about this
for a minute, how many people and things (including light switches and door handles) have you
touched since you last washed your hands? You could very well be holding onto energy from others
that you’re not even aware of. By washing your hands literally or symbolically, you’re cleansing your
hands and removing those energies. Clean hands – clean energy.

Create a receptacle for energy disposal. As we go through these techniques, you’ll learn how to
remove some negative energy that you may be storing. When those energies are released, where do
they go? Some people simply set the intention that the energy will be transmuted once it’s been
released. Some will send it into the earth to be transmuted, and others may keep a bowl of sea salt to
cleanse their hands in.

Personally, I prefer to have virtual receptacles around me. Whenever I remove negative energy from
myself or others, I visualize that energy going into a container with a lid. That container, or containers,
will stay with me until I am completely done and have done a final symbolic hand, body, and room
cleanse. At which time, I send the container(s) up to the Divine and ask that all the dark, negative
energy be transmuted into loving, healing energy and to be sent to whomever may need it most. Use
your intuition and what feels right for you. If, however, I am only removing a small amount, I will send
it down into the earth to be transmuted.

Meditate to connect with divine light. This step is not necessary, but I believe it can really help. We’re
all made of energy; and, therefore, we can use it at any time without connecting to the divine.
However, by visualizing this light, it can help us to separate our emotions while working with the
energy.

Take a few deep, slow breaths to help still and quiet the body and the mind. Then imagine or set the
intention that you are opening up your Crown chakra (at the top of your head). Imagine above you a
beautiful divine light – maybe white or golden in color. If any part of this you don’t “see”, you may feel
it. Otherwise, just intend for it to be so, as long as it feels right for you.

On your next inbreath, imagine pulling a stream of that divine light straight down, and gently, into your
Crown chakra. Then bring it down through your head, across your shoulders, down your arms and into
your hands. See or feel this light flow specifically into your palms.

Feeling the energy in your hands

Take a couple deep breaths to help the body relax. Then, place both hands out in front of you, palms
facing towards you. Pick either palm to start with. Simply stare at the palm of one hand and continue
for a few moments until you begin to feel a change. For example, it may feel as though your palm is
heating up, tingling, or vibrating. Once you feel whatever the sensation is, stay with it a few more
moments. Then, simply stare at the other palm until you feel sensation in it, too. After a few moments,
see if you can determine if the energy in one hand is greater than the other. If so, that is your
dominant hand. It’s common that if you’re right-handed, the left palm will feel greater energy. Not
always, but it seems to be most common.

If you are unable to feel the energy this way, there are a few more things to try:

 Rub your hands together vigorously for about 10 seconds or so until your palms feel warm.
Then, relax your wrists and shake your hands. Bring your hands back up, palms facing you, and
check again for the energy and if one hand is more dominant than the other.
 Firmly, but gently, press the center of each palm with the thumb of your opposite hand for 5
seconds or so. This will help you concentrate on the center of your palms, or hand chakras.
 Place your hands in prayer position with the outside of your thumbs touching your heart
chakra. Above you, visualize a beautiful light. This is your source to God, the Divine, to the
Universe. Imagine a stream of that light coming down and entering your head (crown chakra).
©2020 Rev. Tish Niedzwiecki, Soulspirational Wellness Studio
Continue to bring the light down into your heart chakra. Take a moment to feels its warmth.
Now, imagine the light traveling up to both shoulders, down both arms, and exiting your palms.
On every in-breath, imagine the light coming down and through you to your heart chakra. With
every out-breath, imagine you’re sending that light out through your shoulders, arms, and
through your palms. Continue this step until you can feel the energy building between your
palms.

Energy Balls
Now that you have felt the energy in your hands, and possibly determined which hand is your
dominant hand, it’s time to explore this energy.

With your hands out in front of you, place your palms about an inch apart, facing each other. Slowly
move your hands in slow circular motion. While you’re doing this, see if you can feel the energy
between your hands. When you’re ready, slowly move your hands apart about 4 – 5” and then slowly
bring them back together – still not touching. As you repeat this step, you can picture the motion of an
accordion or like you’re pulling taffy. Bring your hands out further, then back in. Feel the energy and
the magnetic pull of your hands.

Before creating an energy ball that you will use on your body, it’s important to be in either a neutral
state or loving state. Think about it: if you are in a foul mood, it will be more difficult to separate that
from the energy ball. You could take a few minutes in meditation to still and quiet your mind and to
push out, or step away, from the negative emotions. You could also shift your energy by thinking about
something positive before you begin.

Though we will be bringing the light in from above, if negative feelings are overwhelming, it may be
harder to separate yourself. In this case, you could ask a family member or friend to do it for you. Just
make sure their following the guidelines with cleansing and intention before they do.

To make an energy ball, bring your palms back together, about an inch apart. Again, move your hands
in a slow, circular motion. Now imagine you can see the energy circling between the palms. Imagine
now that you are creating ball of energy. You can think of this as though you’re rolling cookie dough or
meatballs in your hands. Imagine this light becoming bright, beautiful, and strong. What can we do
with an energy ball? A lot! And we’ll explore some the ways below.

Energy Ball for Protection

Once you have your energy ball formed and can visualize the beautiful, divine light, slowly start
expanding it. Imagine gently expanding the energy until it’s taller and wider than you. When you can
see this energy ball large enough, allow yourself to step into it. Feel yourself surrounded by this
beautiful divine light. This is your protective bubble of light energy. You can use this bubble to protect
you from other people’s energy. Let’s say you’re going shopping and you don’t want their energy
attaching to yours, simply step into the bubble. Maybe you’re going to the doctor’s office and would
©2020 Rev. Tish Niedzwiecki, Soulspirational Wellness Studio
like to be protected from the energy left behind from others before you. (Have you ever stopped to
think about how many people before you have sat on the same chair, touched the same doorknob, or
have been on the same exam table?) Now, you can bubble yourself for your own protection.

Maybe you have to work with negative people and find you’re taking their energy home with you. By
placing a bubble around yourself before work, or around your work area, you can help protect your
energy. I suggest protecting your energy with light before you leave for work. After work, before you
get in your car, on the bus, etc., release the bubble into the earth. If you still feel some energy has
attached, you can release it. The uses for protection are limitless.

Balls of Healing Energy

If you’d like to use an energy ball for healing, you can try this. I always start with bringing the divine
energy down through my head, to my heart, and out my palms. With the energy in your palms, create
an energy ball. Follow your intuition for the size that feels right to you. While you’re rolling the energy
around in your palms, set the intention for the energy ball or fill it with a simple prayer. For example,
let’s say you have a headache. Simply set the intention that this energy ball is filled with loving, healing
light and will be placed in your head to relieve your headache. When you’re ready, gently place the
healing ball into the area of your head that hurts. You can ask that it expand through your entire head
and down your neck. You can ask that it expand to wherever the root cause is.

State your intention that your head, neck, or wherever, be filled with this loving, healing light to
remove your headache. You can state the intention that the energy is to swirl around and pick up any
negative, unwanted energy that’s causing the headache, and that, as you exhale, the energy ball is
pushing that energy out of your body. If you use the exhale method, you can imagine the pain exiting
through your mouth, or simply to be pushed out of you very gently. Once you feel as though the
negative energy has left, follow it up with healing light. We’ll discuss this in more detail under the
healing breath exercise.

You can also use your healing hands at the same time. Once the energy ball – with the intention set – is
gently placed into your head, place your hands on the part of your head that hurts. Set the intention
that as the energy ball expands, it’ll push the negative energy out into your hands. Slowly pull your
hands away as if you’re drawing out the negative energy. When you feel like you have received some
of that energy, place it into the receptacle or sea salt, wherever you will be disposing it. Repeat this
process until the headache goes away or until your intuition says you’ve pulled out enough. When
you’re finished, visualize the light, healing energy ball filling up the spaces where you’ve removed any
energy.

Never leave any part of you void of energy. Remember, if you’ve removed energy, it creates a void.
Always make sure you fill it back up with the energy ball. When you’re finished, lay down if you feel
you need to and allow the energy to continue working. You can set the intention for the energy ball to
continue to work until the headache is gone, and that, once it is, the light energy will be absorbed
naturally into your body.
©2020 Rev. Tish Niedzwiecki, Soulspirational Wellness Studio
This is an example for what you can do with a headache. Imagine what you can do with other parts of
your body! You can also use the energy ball on an emotional or mental level. Let’s say you’ve been
upset about something lately. Create an energy ball, place the intention, and then gently place the
energy ball in your heart chakra, for example. Maybe you need mental clarity for something. Create
the energy ball, state the intention, and gently place it in your third eye chakra. Maybe your stomach is
upset over something that has happened – yes, place an energy ball of calm and healing into your
stomach.

The uses of energy balls are limitless. Here are a few more examples:

 Flu symptoms
 Any bodily pain
 Surround your work station for clarity and effectiveness
 Place an energy ball in your garden or plants
 Use them for your pets
 Make an energy ball large enough to fill up your house and driveway
 Place a bubble around your car
 Chakra healing

Quick Energy Ball steps:

 Create an energy ball

 Set the intention for the energy ball
 When it feels ready, intuitively, gently place the ball in the area of pain
 Pull out any dark, negative energy
 Transmute and dispose any energy you’ve removed
 Give thanks to yourself and any guides or angels that you may have called upon

Energy Balls and the Chakras

Now that you know how to make energy balls, you can also create them specifically with the chakras in
mind. Let’s say you could use some Root Chakra balancing or strengthening. As you begin to make your
energy ball, visualize it as the color red. You can set whatever intention you’d like into the ball during
its creation. Once you’re finished, simply place the red energy ball into your root chakra.

You could place an energy ball of divine light into each chakra for balance, cleansing, etc. Here again,
the possibilities are endless. Allow your mind to guide you. You’ll find the right words.

Healing Breath
Our breath is a very real reminder of our human life. We need our breath to live. If you practice
meditation or yoga, you know how important it is to focus on your breath. How often do you stop to
give thanks that you’re alive? When we say this, by extension we’re grateful for our breath.

Healing Breath Exercise

Most of us don’t take much time thinking about our breath or breathing. However, the way in which
we breathe can make a difference in our healing. Most of us are shallow chest breathers. If you’d like
to get more from your breathing, try belly or diaphragm breathing instead. How do you do this? Place
one hand on your chest and another on your abdomen. When you inhale, which area expands more?
Now, focus on bringing your breath to your abdomen instead of your chest. You should be able to feel
the bottom of your lungs expand and feel like they’re pushing down. Throughout your day, try to make
time to focus on your breathing and take a few cleansing belly breaths.

Here are some benefits of belly breathing:

 Respiratory, digestive, and lymph systems work better

 Better circulation as oxygen levels increase
 Improves the immune system with increased energy

We’ll keep this in mind as we practice the breathing exercise below.

The following breathing exercise is one I’ve used for nearly 20 years. It can be calming, relaxing, and
soothing. It may even allow you to sleep better when practiced at bedtime. You can try this exercise
before bed, when you wake, or anytime during the day. You can lie down or sit erect in a chair. The
important thing is that you’ll have time to focus and breathe without interruptions.

To transmute the negative energy that you’ll be exhaling, imagine a circle of violet or white flames
surrounding you. I normally visualize it about chest or neck high, and I typically imagine the flames are
about 4-6” high. Allow your mind to set the flames that are right for you. As you exhale the negative
energy, imagine it entering these flames to be transmuted. When you’re done with the process, simply
state the intention that the flames will simply go out and the circle will be released.

To begin, take a few deep breaths and allow your body to relax. Keep a notepad close by in case your
mind keeps running in different directions. You can write down the mental distractions and get back to
you.

Let’s use the headache example again. Once you’re relaxed, imagine above you is a beautiful light of
energy. This light is infinite, loving, and healing. Now, as you inhale, imagine breathing that light into
either the top of your head (your crown chakra) or in through your nose. Inhale the light into the area
of pain you’d like to relieve. With every inhale, allow the light to become stronger and watch it as it
swirls around the pain. Imagine a bubble of light around the pain. When you feel the light has
©2020 Rev. Tish Niedzwiecki, Soulspirational Wellness Studio
completely surrounded it, exhale the bubble out through the top of your head, or you can exhale it out
through your mouth. Continue this process until the pain leaves or until you feel you have exhaled as
much as you could. When you feel the process is complete, inhale the light energy again and exhale. As
you are exhaling, imagine the light is completely clearing out your throat and mouth. Since you are
using your mouth as an exit point, you want to make sure there aren’t any remnants of the pain energy
you are expelling. Remember, if energy (in this case, pain energy) has been removed, we need to
replace it with loving, light energy so no voids are left. Inhale again to fill up any voids and then simply
exhale. You can continue this process until you feel cleansed and filled with this divine light.

Now, let’s say you have arm pain. You’ll use the same process: bring the healing energy in through your
crown chakra or nose, down to your heart, and over to the arm that hurts. Allow the healing, light
energy to completely encompass the pain. When you’re ready, imagine your breath pushing the energy
out from your arm. As you exhale, imagine any dark, negative energy leaving your arm. Continue this
process until you feel you’ve completed the process. Make sure you cleanse this area when you’re
done and to fill any voids that may have been created. You can do this by breathing in the light to your
arm and then exhaling the light. Once you see it as cleansed, then as you inhale, use the light to fill in
any voids. Once you’re done, imagine your arm as being beautiful, strong, and healthy.

If you have lower back pain, for example, you can push the energy out from there, or you can send the
energy down and out of your body through the Root chakra. For the lower extremities you can move
the energy out directly from the place of pain or you can release it through your Foot chakras, the soles
of your feet. You’ll use the same process as stated above, but now with each exhale you’ll send the
dark, unhealthy energy out through the exit point of your choice. Always remember to refill the energy
you’ve exhaled and to cleanse the pathway to the exit so none of that energy is left behind.

If you are using a chakra for an exit point, be sure cleanse the pathway with light. This helps flush out
any residual energy and keeps your flow of energy unobstructed. We don’t want to muddy up the
chakra, we’re just using it as an exit point. Cleanse it before moving on.

Quick Healing breath steps:

 Get comfortable and take a few deep belly breaths

 Image a beautiful, healing light above you
 Inhale the energy in through your crown chakra or nose
 Bring energy to, and encircle, the place in your body that you’d like to send healing to
 Exhale the dark, negative energy (remember to have a system in place to transmute that
energy)
 Replace voids by filling them with healthy, healing breaths of light
 Imagine that part of your body as healthy and whole
 Continue sending light energy through the exit pathway to make sure no unwanted energy has
collected there

©2020 Rev. Tish Niedzwiecki, Soulspirational Wellness Studio

 Transmute the energy that was exhaled
 Give thanks to the divine, for your healing breath and any guides you may have asked to be
present

Anxiety
First let me say that if you suffer from anxiety, you may want to contact a mental health professional. If
you are already seeing one, you may find these steps helpful. If not, please discontinue use.

I have suffered from anxiety most of my life. I know what it’s like to feel the pressure in my chest. I
know what it’s like to feel like I’m going to faint because my anxieties are so high. Therefore, I’m
sharing with you how I’ve used my healing hands and breath in some situations.

 Breath. As I take a deep, slow breath, I imagine pulling the divine light into my chest. I see the
light encircle around my chest, grabbing the pressure of my anxiety. Then, as I exhale, I imagine
exhaling the light, carrying the pressure with it out of my body. Try to elongate your breath. I
usually repeat this a few times to see if it has helped to relieve the pressure.

I see this somewhat similar to when we’re told to take slow, deep breaths to help us relax but I
use this visualization with it. Sometimes I’ll even say, mentally, “I am in control of my body and I
release this pressure”.

 Hands. Sometimes I’ll use my hands to imagine I’m scooping out the pressure in my chest.
Remember to cleanse your hands after each scoop.

Other times, I’ll place my hands on my chest while I visualize the pressure in my chest rising up
and into my hands. I’ll energetically cleanse my hands and then repeat the process until I feel as
though the pressure has been alleviated.

 Crystals. I suggest using two of the same kind of stone or crystal. Place one in each palm. Bring
in divine light down into your chest and imagine it pushing the energy into your shoulders,
down your arms, into your palms, and finally into each crystal. If you have pant pockets, you
can place one in each pocket to use throughout the day.

You can cleanse your stones and crystals with the full moon energy, or look online for your
specific stone for the proper care.

Shift Your Energy

The more you pay attention to your subtle energy, the easier it’ll be to shift it. At the very least, you’ll
have a better idea of where the unpleasant energy is coming from.

 When you have an unpleasant encounter with someone, it may shift your energy from pleasant
to unpleasant. In that moment, or as soon as possible thereafter, scan your body to see where

©2020 Rev. Tish Niedzwiecki, Soulspirational Wellness Studio

you’re holding onto the energy of that encounter. You can then use your hands or breath to
remove it.
 Visualize something that makes your heart spontaneously smile. It’s a good idea to think about
this ahead of time so you can quickly go to it. You could also think of a fun, upbeat song to have
handy. So, when something unpleasant happens, think of the song or image to shift your
energy. It’s hard to feel both happy and unhappy at the same time.
 After an unpleasant confrontation, I do take time to analyze what happened and if there was
something I could’ve done differently or if there’s something deeper about me that I need to
work on. When I’m done, however, I ask if the unpleasant feelings and how they’re affecting my
physical and energy bodies are worth holding on to. Often you can let things go at this point.
Release that which no longer serves you.
