Singing Lesson Plan

Title: Draw a Bucket of Water Grade Level: 1st Grade

Materials needed:

Participating students

Draw a Bucket of Water song

Procedure:

A.S: Have any of you all ever carried a bucket of water? Is it heavy or light?

1. Start by asking students what a bucket of water may feel like or sound when walking around
with it. Allow students to engage and get an idea of what a bucket of water may feel like
(weight).
2.Now ask students to show with their body how a bucket of water may look like or feel when
carrying/holding it.
3.Now you will introduce the Draw a Bucket of Water song.
4.When introducing the song, break it down by singing phrase by phrase and then have students
repeat after you.
5.Now that students have learned the song by phrases, try combining two phrases together
(bigger chunks) and once again repeat after you sing a phrase.
6.After the students were able to repeat back the song by phrases, have them repeat back but this
time the song is broken down only in half.
7.Now that the students were able to sing the song by half, combine them both and sing the song
completely together.
8.Once the students were able to sing the song, you will introduce the activity.
9.Select three students to join you and demonstrate to the class that movements that will go along
with the song. Demonstrate three times before having the class try it out.
10.Divide the class into groups of 4 and reintroduce the song but in chunks. Once the students
were able to repeat the chunks, have them repeat it back but this time in half. By now, have
students sing the whole song.
11.Introduce the movements that go with the song but in chunks. By then, students should be
practicing it about four times with their group.
12.Finally, have class sing and do movements with their groups.
Closure: Review what the song was about and the movements that were used during the singing.

Educational Objective: By the end of this lesson, students will have learned basic memorization
by memorizing lyrics to a song along with movements.
