Decision Criteria and alternative solutions:

After Sebastian Piñera, the Chilean president publicly declared that they would rescue the
trapped miners dead or alive it gives the rescuing team a go signals to be fully committed and to develop
a rescue plan. He also requests the develop of multiple rescue option. But proposing a workable
alternative was hard, they to evaluate each proposal on criteria such as availability, cost, service
schedule, maintenance and logistics, and the state of the technology.

Later, after doing a lot of conceptual work the rescue operation would correspondingly pursue
multiple solutions at once, employing three different drilling systems—Plans A, B, and C—in parallel.
Plan A was more reliable but far too slow for comfort. It includes the drilling of a rescue shaft with a
Strata 950 raise borer, a machine designed to cut mine ventilation shafts. Plan B had the potential for
the quickest adjustments, but its technology was untested. These involved widening an existing pilot
hole using a Schramm T-130XD water drilling rig. Plan C offered greater speed—but less precision than
seemed necessary. Comprising the use of oil field drilling technology with an oil-drilling rig—the RIG-
422.

Recommendation:

The rescue team should use the RIG-422 to widened an existing pilot hole.

Implementation and justification:

Since the technology in plan B was untested, it gives additional challenge to the rescuer. But
widening an existing pilot hole gives accuracy in locating the trapped miners. And by using the
technology in Plan C, they should obtain greater speed and accurateness.
