A successful construction project is a goal directed, time bound & coordination of

varied skills and resources put together. However, construction project is also prone to
delays due to many reasons among which procurement of materials is one of the
reasons. This paper emphasises on the material planning so that there is a timely and a
systematic way of material procurement at site by effective usage of a tool which will
help the person in the site to place orders at the right time for on time delivery of
materials to the site.
Paper also gives an idea about strategies which could be used for purchase of materials
like steel & cement in bulk as their rates usually tend to fluctuate in the market. These
strategies are applied by forecasting the market prices of materials by studying the
historical rates of the same and applying appropriate forecasting techniques, Thus
cutting down the cost incurred on purchase and helping in achieving a fluent cash flow
