How to Covidproof your home

Editorial by Daily Mirror

Researchers studying the

structure of the novel
coronavirus are trying to
understand how long the virus
can remain on different
surfaces. As per a study
published in the New England
Journal of Medicine, the virus
can be detectable on copper
surfaces for up to four hours,
while the figure rises to 24
hours when it comes to
cardboard. And on plastic and
steel, it can be up to 72 hours.
Here are a few tips on how to
clean surfaces and disinfect your house: Disinfect Wear rubber gloves while cleaning your
house. Remember to disinfect the gloves before subsequent use. Put all disposable items, like
gloves, wipes, sponges, etc, in a sanitised bag when you’ve finished cleaning. Disinfect
everything you touch, be it switches, doorknobs, phones, chairs, remotes, etc.

Supplies Use a diluted household bleach solution, or an alcohol-based solution with at least
70 per cent alcohol. Follow instructions on the cleaning product’s label. Stock up on garbage
bags, and throw away everything that isn’t disinfected, including wraps, paper, cardboard,
boxes, etc.

Electronics Keep your bigger gadgets like televisions and computers covered with wipeable
plastic covers.

Clean these thoroughly with disinfectant bleach. And wash your hands when done.

Leave it on As per UNICEF’s recommendations, disinfectant products need to remain on the

surface for several minutes for it to effectively kill the virus. So it’s important that you don’t
wipe it off immediately after applying it. As far as possible, keep the house well-ventilated.
