Graffiti Project and Reflection

College of Southern Nevada

It was Friday night when Steve arrived home from work, his 2 daughters were getting ready to

sleep and they were so excited to see him.

“Daddy!” Sarah excitedly yelled, “You promised you’d be home early to play with us”.

“I know baby, but I got caught up at work” Steve said, “I promise next week I’ll be here to play

with you and your sister”. Steve was used to making promises but he never took them seriously,

and every time, he broke Sarah and Stephanie’s hearts.

The next week, Steve’s daughters make him a sign to remind him of their play date, he was

touched and decided he would keep his promise this time. When he got home, Sarah was waiting

for him with her toy make up and accessories.

“What is all this?” Steve asked, “we are going to make you a doll daddy!” Stephanie said.

“Are you sure you want to do that sweetie? Don’t you rather play with your actual dolls?”

“No daddy, I’ve been practicing and you will look beautiful” said Sarah with the biggest smile.

Steven could not decline her princesses’ request. After all, he would do anything for them and a

little “doll time” wouldn’t hurt anyone.

The next two hours were precious, he sat there and enjoyed to be with his family baking, playing

board games and finally getting transformed into a doll. Steve didn’t know what he got himself

into. His lack of presence in his daughters’ lives caused him to not know how much actual make

up they had. They put a wig on him and started brushing his hair.

“Now close your eyes and don’t move, okay?” said Sarah while Stephanie giggled

uncontrollably.

After a lot of tickling on his face and screams from Sarah to stop moving, the master piece was

finally done.
“You look beautiful daddy!” they both yelled in unison. When Steve opened his eyes, he

couldn’t help but cry of laughter at what his eyes were witnessing. He had a blonde wig, colorful

eyes and lips so red you could spot them from a mile away! They all laughed and cherished their

time together. From that day on, Steve understood that his daughters were far more important

than over time at work.

Reflection

Portfolio Artifact Description: Graffiti – Using paint to make a cartoon out of our professor’s

picture.

What you learned: This assignment was very difficult for someone with little imagination like

me.  Paint has a lot of useful tools such as brush, highlighter and shapes. However, coming up

with a clear image was still extremely hard. The picture we got to download had very low

quality. The original picture was about 2x3 inches. I had to enlarge it which made it very

pixelated. With this project I learned I definitely don’t have a creative mind, but once I got an

idea of what I wanted, it was very fun to complete.

using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce creative artifacts and make meaningful

learning experiences for themselves and others.

Application of Skills Learned for the Future: This assignment really keeps you busy. It took

me at least 20 minutes to picture in my mind what I wanted. At first, I wanted to give Steve some
Albert Einstein hair, which I did and was very funny, but could not come up with a story for it. I

then looked up scary clowns for inspiration, but none of those fulfilled me. I then remembered a

meme I saw online that said something like “it doesn’t matter how manly you are, if your

daughter says you are a princess, then you are a princess!”. I figured making Steve into a badly

made up doll would be hilarious, and that was confirmed when my husband passed by and

started laughing hysterically. The story was my least favorite part. I wanted it to be as funny as

my picture but couldn’t come up with anything. I decided to keep it simple and with a message.

This is definitely a project I could use with my students. It will make them get creative and keep

them busy for a while. Maybe this project could even help those students discover their talent

and love for story writing.
