Single hose loading of C02 tanker using ground pump.

Thines:

1) Isolation

- Use chock wheels to avoid any tanker movement after it has stopped.

- Block off area in front of prime mover with cones.

2) Good housekeeping

- A visual inspection ensures there is no presence of insects or other pests or foreign matters.

- Pipes should be labelled with the direction of liquid flow to assist with pump cool down.

*3) Wet Control *

- Clean the inlet hose before connecting it to the tanker inlet to ensure the hose is oil and dirt free.

- Use high pressure water to clean chock wheels to remove any dirt to allow proper grip of the
tanker wheels.

4) PPE

- Wear leather gloves and safety goggles.

- Wear safety glasses and safety helmet.

5) Substitution

- Instead of using manual liquid transfer by truck loading, can do automate truck loading by using
series of logic interlocks.

- Instead of purging from the tanker, it’s better to purge at the storage vessel drain pipes side due to
the position of drain pipes are directed away from the operator and in an open space.

6) Enclosure

- Label the liquid handle valve with black colour and vapour handle valve in yellow colour.

- Ensure there is proper hazard signage around the tanker filling area.

7) Attenuation

- Vent vapour pressure through silencer by opening appropriate amount vapour valve to reduce and
maintain the tanker pressure.
- Ensure no overfilling of the tanker to avoid cryogenic liquid CO2 to spill around by opening the
appropriate trycock according to tankers.

1) The following PPE is required for bulk liquid CO2 delivery operations:

• 100% cotton clothing and a long-sleeved shirt

• Hard hat (helmet)

• Safety glasses with side shields

• Face shield worn in the "down" position whenever working with CO2 hoses and
equipment

• Safety boots with leather uppers

• Hearing protection (ear plugs or muffs)

• Insulated leather mechanic or palm style gloves

• Traction safetyboots for slippery conditions

• Cold and wet weather clothing as needed for rain and wind

2) Ventilation

Employers should ensure, as appropriate:

 these are sufficient distance away; or

 The ground is graded to direct vapours accumulation of CO2; and away from occupied
buildings and vulnerable populations (eg to provide safe dispersal of vapourising liquid leaks
from fixed liquefied CO2 gas vessels)

3) Intensification
- Dry Ice Plugs in Hose:

Liquid carbon dioxide must be purged from the hose or pipe before reducing the pressure
below 5 bar. This can be done by supplying carbon dioxide vapour to one end of the hose or
piping system to maintain the pressure above the triple point while removing the remaining
liquid from the other end.

- Cylinders must be connected to low pressure equipment only using proper pressure regulators.
Cylinders used for the discharge of CO2 gas (without dip tube) must be connected to a suitable
reducing valve to obtain a desired pressure and flow rate

4) Wet methods

In case of spillage or leaks

 Use water spray to reduce vapours or divert vapour cloud drift
 Do not direct water at spill or source of leak (risk of ice building/ blockages)
