Thank you for your support and attendance to the Back to School event, yesterday. If you ever have any questions about the Reggio Emilia approach or Emergent Curriculum, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I am happy to help!
The beginning of the school year is so very interesting and exciting. There are so many noticable changes each week. The children are becoming accustomed to their new classroom environment, along with understanding new expectations. They are becoming more familiar with the other individuals in the classroom, and navigating social relationships.
This week the children have been building more relationships with each other and the teachers in our classroom. We have become more understanding of the Helper of the Day roles and responsibilities, and take this job very seriously.
We also introduced our calendar routines this past week. It is not my expectation that children memorize the days of the week nor the months of the year. Rather, I use this time to build our concept of numbers, counting, sequencing of numbers, and writing of numbers. Our morning meeting time is a vital part of our day, as it is a space where literacy, numeracy, language, social-emotional skills, and approaches to learning take place.
Our first day of swimming is Wednesday, September 19th (Day C). “3 more PE days until swimming!” -PreK Friends

Have a restful weekend!

This week children found a transformed light and shadow space. The only materials found at this area were emptied plastic containers, prisms, mirrors, and old CD’s. As the children investigated these materials, they began to notice how rainbows were forming.
Currently, the children believe the prisms have water inside. They have concluded that rain (water) and sun (light) make rainbows form. They are unsure why the mirrors, CD’s, and hollow plastic containers are creating rainbows, though.
This week we introduced R amps & Pathways to the children during our center choice time. At first the children were presented a ramp on the floor. Then a marble was placed on the ramp and the children were asked how they could get this marble to move. Children showed one could move the marble with their body parts. Then the children were asked how they could get the marble to move without touching the it. This lead them into exploring how an inclined surface can cause the marble to move.
As we continue to grow our sense of belonging, the PreK 4 children set out to explore a new place within our campus. We walked with Ms. Callie’s classroom to Redeemer Hall to explore the atrium space. The children skipped, jumped, danced, and leapt through this space. The children noticed there were cars parked under the building, shadows from the building pillars, and trees in the middle the space.
