during the lockdown due to COVID19, Rice Tariffication, Law, etc.) happening today and make comments through the lens of the Social Teachings of the Church. In 6-8 sentences expound the issue and cite at least one Principle of Social Teachings of the Church. Explain how the social issue contradicts the teaching and give a practical solution to solve it.
Amidst the enhanced quarantine lockdown in the entire
Luzon, there are many ordinary people who easily got arrested just because they didn’t follow the rules that have been implemented. There’s a viral post of a concerned citizen where an elderly woman from Bulacan who cried after she knew that only those who have their “food stab” will only be the ones who can receive some goods and also a disabled old man who didn’t get a chance to receive a “food stab” because he is old. From my standpoint, this social issue where the number of injustice arrests of other people and unfair treatment of the government to people who aren’t privileged enough like them contradicts the option for the poor and the vulnerable of the social teachings of the church. In crucial times like this, poor and old people are discriminated just like on how they easily arrested the drivers and some people who just want to earn money because that’s their only source of income versus on like what they did to Koko Pimentel’s carelessness. Reading and seeing posts about those senators and their whole family who doesn’t have any symptoms got tested for COVID-19 makes me sick because many people have the symptoms of COVID-19 that didn’t have the chance to get tested first which results into more exposure of the virus to other people. The way of other officials is not prioritizing the poor and vulnerable ones, like the mayor of Quezon City, where she only gave plenty of relief goods to those who have luxurious houses and cars while she only gave a food for just like a one person can only eat and a piece of soap. Throughout the enhanced community quarantine there are so many bias and injustice treatment of government officials to the poor and vulnerable and it made all the people to criticize what type of administration do we have. My practical solution with this problem would be trying to suggest what our barangay captain or our SK chairman can do for them to give relief goods to everyone especially those who don’t have any source of income and another family member to rely on and suggest my solution with my other friends for them to have a chance to reach out their barangay officials.
