ABSTRACT

In this ENGLISH II paper, the topic of discussion is EXPRESSION OF QUANTITY, I as the


author / author of the paper will explain and describe how we EXPRESSING QUANTITY in the
context of COUNTABLE NOUNS and UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS.
The brief explanation is that EXPRESSION OF QUANTITY is an explanation of the number of

 PENDAHULUAN

A. BACKGROUND
After mastering the material in this section well, then we will be able to communicate better with
lecturers, friends and other people in this world. In addition, we will be able to add insight and
knowledge of our English language for the betterment of our nation and country. Therefore, I try
to present a variety of rules from the many rules of English about EXPRESSING QUANTITY
and examples.

 PEMBAHASAN

A.   PENGERTIAN EXPRESSION OF QUANTITY


Expression of quantity menjelaskan tentang jumlah (berapa banyak) orang atau benda
yang ada.
Berikut contoh quantity dalam bahasa inggris:
1.Untuk kata benda yang dapat dihitung(countable noun);
-each (setiap)                    -a few (beberapa)
-a couple of (beberapa pasang)        -a number of (sejumlah)
-a many (banyak)                      -both (keduanya)
-every (setiap)                   -several (beberapa)
- Contoh: Each student wears a hat.
- Terjemahan: Setiap murid memakai sebuah topi
2.Untuk kata benda yang tidak dapat dihitung(uncountable noun)
-a little (sedikit)
-much (banyak)
- Contoh:I only a put a little sugar of the milk.
- Terjemahan: Saya hanya member sedikit gula pada susu trsebut.
3.Untuk kata benda yang dapat dihitung dan tidak dapat dihitung:
-some (beberapa)
-plenty of (cukup banyak)
-a lot of (banyak)
-all (semua)

B.   PERNYATAAN KUANTITAS


Pernyataan kuantitas ditempatkan sebelum kata benda dan mengungkapkan ' berapa
banyak ' dari sesuatu yang ada . Beberapa ungkapan kuantitas hanya digunakan dengan
noncount ( tak terhitung ), yang lain hanya digunakan dengan count ( dihitung ). Berikut
adalah beberapa contoh :
Count
-          both friends (kedua teman)
-          several people (beberapa orang)
Count dan NonCount
- beberapa waktu / teman (some time / friends)
- semua orang / semua makanan (all people / all food) .
Berikut adalah contoh-contoh kalimat dari masing-masing ungkapan,Contoh: pergi dari
jumlah terendah jumlah yang jumlah tertinggi atau jumlah :
a.      Not any - Both Count and Noncount Nouns
(Tidak setiap - Kedua Count dan Noncount)

I don't have any time this week.

b.      No - Both Count and Noncount Nouns


(No - Baik Count dan Noncount)

Mary has no money to go away on holiday..

c.       One, two, three, etc. - Count Nouns Only


(Satu , dua, tiga , dll – Hanya Count)

Peter has one car.

d.      Both - Count Nouns Only


(Kedua – Hanya Count)

Both of my friends live in San Francisco.

e.       A Couple Of - Count Nouns Only


(Sepasang – Hanya Count)

There are a couple of cats in that house.

f.       A Few / Few - Count Nouns Only


(Beberapa / Sedikit – Hanya Count)

There are a few students in the classroom.


She has few friends in New York.

g.      A Little / Little - Noncount Nouns Only

There is a little food left on the table.

A. CONCLUSION

Expression of quantity describes the number (how many) people or objects there are, and

In everyday use both in writing and orally, in Expression of quantity there are many
variations and types, depending on the situation and place.
