Celebrate Recovery
Introduction:
Celebrate Recovery is a recovery program that has a religious base and follows the script
of the Bible. They have eight principles and twelve steps included to help their attendees. The
recovery program is aimed towards; drug and alcohol addiction, high anxiety, eating disorders,
compulsive behaviors, bad depression, sex addiction, etc. Along with providing the program for
the addicted, they have incorporated a program for the children. The child program is for
children of the attendees as well as the workers. Celebration Place is the official name, it
provides help, support and a type of child watch for the children while their parent or legal
guardian is either attending the program or helping work it. Celebrate Recovery is a program that
I have volunteered with in the past and believe have an effective and appropriate mission.
Civic Engagement:
Celebrate Recovery is a non-mandated program that holds public meetings. People join
out of their own free will to make their own change. This program is generally based out of a
church or through church goers who want to make a change in the community. A person or
group who would like to start a program in their area would have to visit the Celebrate Recovery

official website, as well as see their rules and requirements. The word is usually spread via social
media, by word of mouth, flyers or pamphlets and “business” cards. It is a program that is open
to all, it may be fully based on the word of the Lord, however the community is made aware of
that and can choose to participate whether they are personally religious or not. All of the
information pertaining to the attendees is kept confidential and is only shared with appropriate
personnel.
Identity:
There are two key identities that are seen within this program; religion and addiction.
This is due to the entire program being faith based, including the eight principles and twelve
steps. Age, race, ethnicity and sexual identity are not things that hold specific identities within
the program. It helps people anywhere from teens to older adults, the goal is to give the attendee
the help they are seeking and willing to receive. Celebrate Recovery can also be started wherever
you are located, so it is not geologically specific. Another thing to add would be that with it
being religious based, it does not deduce itself to a specific branch or denomination of religion.
Inserted below will help show the religious identity by using the eight principles as well as the
12 steps of Celebrate Recovery. These are separated images pulled from the web to better

Group Mobilization:
This organization shows a public initiative to bring about social and personal change for
the greater good. It helps the addicted and their family, provides sober sponsors and guides along
with the recovery process. They use their members and workers to spread awareness, help and
hope as a means of outreach to those who may not know of the program. While doing my
research into this organization, I also discovered a Celebrate Recovery locator for the groups that
are already up and running. This is a useful tool if you are looking for either help or to volunteer,
Conclusion:
This group gathers around a shared identity of either giving or receiving help and
bettering their community. Addictions come easily and are hard to shake, it also affects more
than just the addicted person. Some others it affects are family, close friends and even the people
you work with. This organization helps people all around the United States with bettering people
and their communities, while also helping their children and families. I believe it has a purpose
