BLOOD SUGAR LEVEL

INTRODUCTION

Blood sugar level is the amount of glucose (a source of energy) present in your blood at any
given time .Normal and diabetic blood sugar ranges .For the majority of healthy individuals,
normal blood sugar levels are as follows; Between 4.0 to 6.0mmol/l (72 to 108mg/dl) when
fasting. Up to 7.8mmol/l (140mg/dl) 2 hours after eating. High blood sugar usually comes
slowly .It happens when you don’t have enough insulin in your body.

EQUIPMENTS USED TO MEASURE BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS IN THE BODY

We need to have the following;

1. Blood glucose monitor

2. Test strips (check that they are in date and have not be exposed to the air)
3. Alcohol swab
4. Single- use safety lancets or lancing device
5. Gloves
6. Cotton wool/ gauze
7. Sharps box
8. Control solution for calibration

PROCEDURES

 Ask the patient to seat down and explain what you are going to do.
 Then wash your hands and put on gloves
 Choose the site for blood sample; usually the side of the finger but the arm or thigh may
be used.
 Use an alcohol swab to clear the site and let the alcohol dry.
 Insert the test strip into the monitor
 Use a single- use lancet or a knowing device to draw blood and dispose off it in a sharp
container.
 Apply the blood into testing strip in a correct way.
 Place the alcohol swab or a piece of gauze over the site and hold it there until the
bleeding stops.
 Read and record the results
 Tell the patient what the result is, explain and discuss the options.
 Dispose all used equipments safely.

glucose was measured on 15/02/2018 around 10:04AM result was 4.8mmol/l

03.Yes, there is a link between BMI and blood sugar. Since Obesity is the most important
and modifiable risk factor in the pathogenesis of type 11 diabetes reported in most
cross sectional studies. However this factor seems to be important in the relationship
between body mass index (BMI) and glucose intolance .This study aims at defining the
relationship between these variables.
TABLE SHOWING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BODY MASS INDEX(BMI) AND BLOOD
SUGAR LEVEL

NAME SEX AGE BMI BLOOD

GLUCOSE LEVEL
ASAJINE UPENDO F 20 24.44 4.6
MWAIGOMBE M 21 21.75

KIHAGA NEEMA F 20 20.37
MOHAMED SALSHE M 21 23.22

04.THE COMPARISON OF BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVEL BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE

There is slight difference in the normal blood glucose level between male and female
this basically due to variation in the body structure, amount of calories consumed and
level of physical activities .keeping this to be in mind that the normal blood glucose level
for adult are not different according to the sex in short the blood glucose level for men
and female are identical as per medical data.

DISCUSSION
There are basically two main tests which are conducted to determine whether someone
has diabetes;
Firstly ,impaired fasting glycaemia test is used for test diabetes it taken when blood
glucose will normally after around 8hrs of fasting.

Secondly, impaired glucose tolerance test it involve taking a concentrated amount of

glucose and then measuring blood glucose level after hour in healthy person.

There are two types of diabetes: Type 1 and Type 11

I. Type1: pancreases produce little or no insulin. Patient must be take daily
injections of insulin to stay alive. Symptoms of this are severe and last for a short
time before the disease is diagnosed.
II. Type 11: Pancrease produces some insulin but because of a cell receptor defect
the cell cannot use the insulin effectively. Symptoms appear slowly and usually
unrecognizable or nearly absent.

RECOMENDATION
 To promote and support healthful eating pattern through emphasizing people to
use variety nutrient derves food in appropriate portion size in order to improve
overall health and especially to attain individual glycemia blood pressure.
CONCLUSION
Generally blood sugar level associated mostly with food intake and life style of an
individual doing exercise, eaten balance diet at a time reduce the risk of high and low
blood sugar. It important for a person to check blood glucose level frequently in order to
know its range and take caution it when diversity from the normal.
