Feature Description
SAP HANA dynamic tiering adds smart, disk-based extended storage to your SAP HANA database. Dynamic
tiering enhances SAP HANA with large volume, warm data management capabilities.
A multistore table is a partitioned SAP HANA table that has at least one partition in SAP HANA and other
partitions in dynamic tiering extended storage. Dynamic tiering provides extended storage as an alternate
physical store for SAP HANA table partitions. Multistore tables are managed and monitored just like other
columnar tables, but offer the advantages of disk-based storage for less frequently accessed data through
extended storage.
Hot data is valuable, frequently accessed business data; warm data is accessed less frequently and is less
valuable. By using dynamic tiering to place hot data in SAP HANA in-memory tables, and warm data in either
extended tables or multistore tables, the highest value data remains in-memory, and cooler less-valuable data
is saved in the extended store. This can reduce the size of your in-memory database.
Feature Description
Store and access data ● Store warm data on disk, in compressed format, in ex
tended tables or multistore tables. Multistore tables
have at least one partition in SAP HANA, and other par
titions in extended storage.

and HANA tables; move data into column-based ex
tended tables from an external source; move data into
partitioned multistore tables from an external source.
● Manage extended and multistore tables using SQL or
graphical tools
● Monitor extended and multistore tables using graphical
tools
● Convert SAP HANA tables to extended or multistore ta
bles
● Load data using all data provisioning technologies sup
ported by SAP HANA including (but not limited to) SAP
HANA smart data integration, and the SAP Landscape
Transformation Replication Server
Provision database ● Install the dynamic tiering portion of an SAP HANA sys
tem
● Configure the dynamic tiering component as part of an
overall SAP HANA system landscape
● Update the SAP HANA dynamic tiering component of
an SAP HANA system landscape
● Provide user authorizations for different levels of data
access
Ensure high availability and disaster recovery ● Use backup and recovery mechanisms to ensure disas
ter recovery, including point-in-time recovery
● Enable automatic failover in tenant database SAP HANA
systems
● Use system replication to maintain a secondary dy
namic tiering system for fault and disaster recovery
support. SAP Note 2447994 lists SAP HANA system
replication behavior changes when you add dynamic
tiering to your landscape.
Monitor database and troubleshoot ● Monitor relevant system activities, such as CPU, disk,
and memory usage, to address problems before they
become critical
● Receive alerts to identify critical system situations
● Avoid unplanned system downtimes and address sys
tem problems by use of troubleshooting information
Feature Description

rity. Dynamic tiering data is backed up automatically as
part of the SAP HANA backup operation.
● Restore SAP HANA data to a given state using point-in-
time recovery. Dynamic tiering data is restored auto
matically as part of the SAP HANA restore operation.

SAP HANA replication provides technologies for replicating data from any supported source system to the SAP
HANA database, for example, trigger-based data replication using SAP Landscape Transformation Replication
Server or SAP Data Integrator. The data replication option is included in SAP HANA, enterprise edition or it can
be purchased individually in addition to SAP HANA, standard edition.
With SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server, you can synchronize your business data in real time
for your system landscape while keeping the data transfer volume to a minimum.
Feature Description
Perform initial load ● Load the existing data from the source system to SAP
HANA (the initial load)
● In parallel to the initial load, by means of database trig
gers, detect data changes that occur while the initial
load process is running, save these changes to the log
ging tables, and transfer them to the target system (af
ter the initial load has completed)
The active/active read-enabled feature enhances the existing high availability and disaster recovery capabilities
of SAP HANA system replication. In an active/active read-enabled configuration, reporting load is taken from
the primary system and executed on the secondary systems.
Feature Description

Note
SAP HANA server software and tools can be used for several SAP HANA platform and options scenarios as
well as the respective capabilities used in these scenarios. The availability of these is based on the available
SAP HANA licenses and the SAP HANA landscape, including the type and version of the back-end systems
the SAP HANA administration and development tools are connected to. There are several types of licenses
available for SAP HANA. Depending on your SAP HANA installation license type, some of the features and
tools described in the SAP HANA platform documentation may only be available in the SAP HANA options
and capabilities, which may be released independently of an SAP HANA Platform Support Package Stack
(SPS). Although various features included in SAP HANA options and capabilities are cited in the SAP HANA
platform documentation, each SAP HANA edition governs the options and capabilities available. Based on
this, customers do not necessarily have the right to use features included in SAP HANA options and
capabilities. For customers to whom these license restrictions apply, the use of features included in SAP
HANA options and capabilities in a production system requires purchasing the corresponding software
license(s) from SAP. If you have additional questions about what your particular license provides, or wish to
discuss licensing features available in SAP HANA options, please contact your SAP account team
representative.
