Citizen Journalist

Philip DeFranco:
Philip DeFranco is a citizen journalist who uses Youtube as a way of communicating and sharing
news. Youtube is a multidirectional platform that allows its users to upload or view its content for
free. As a company that is not owned by any news sources like the BBC, CNN, THE SUN it permits
Philip DeFranco not to be bias towards certain stories. This also allows him to get information from
different sources and merge them together making him more accurate as well as reliable when it
comes to information about a certain story whatnot. However, he is part of Youtube so he is
allowed and has the ability to be able to persuade and manipulate his viewers and be bias without
any consequences from Youtube like getting his channel deleted. This might affect his relationship
with his mass audience viewers as there will be no trust between them, causing him to lose views
and subscribers. Furthermore, YouTubers are paid for having lots of views, this might cause him to
use sensational titles to attract the mass media. Therefore he follows the conventions of tabloids.

CITIZEN JOURNALIST:
Citizen Journalist is a twitter account who get their information from people who sends it to them.
They do not get their stories from news sources such as the CNN, BBC, the guardian etc. They have
a link on their account in which you, the general public can log in and contribute data about a news
story, in which they share. This is a perfect use of web 2.0 as it allows them to communicate from
both the consumer and the provider. This makes their news more accurate and less bias because
different users display same content from different sources. This follows the conventions of both
tabloid and broadsheet.

Global Voices Online:

Global Voices online is a website that is used for citizen journalists to share and upload their news
online. It can be translated to over 120+ languages attracting a much broader audience on an
international scale. This makes Global Voices Online both broadsheet and tabloid because of the
number of different amateur journalist producing articles, based on different stories such as politics,
sports, etc. This could make the news quite misleading as it is not done by professionals but the
general public

Citizen Journalism SubReddit:

Citizen Journalism, which is on Reddit allows its users to distribute and upload their content
online. However, it has staff who control, which posts/stories are allowed to be seen by the
general public. Much like YouTube if a news source misinforms their viewers they do not get
any sanctions, whatsoever. This allows them to be bias and manipulate the information given
out on the SubReddit, influencing their audience. This makes them both broadsheet and
tabloid because of the numeral of different writers producing articles, based on different
stories and agendas.
