Peer to Peer Connections - Instructions

Peer to peer connections are the connections that are made between S7 CPUs in a system.
The frequency of peer to peer communication and the amount of signals to be exchanged
can be configured and optimized, if required.

Note: CPU-414s are restricted to 10 peer to peer connections.

In order to configure the peer to peer connections for an S7 CPU, proceed as follows:

1. Start the SPPA-T3000 Workbench.

2. Open Project View by selecting from the Workbench menu, Applications
Project View.
3. Open the Select Runtime Container dialog box by selecting from the Project View
menu, Admin Runtime Container Edit.

4. Select the runtime container (rtc) to define the peer to peer connections for that rtc.
Then click on Edit to open the Edit Runtime Container – RTC dialog box.

3
5. With the Edit Runtime Container – RTC dialog box open, click on Edit at the right
side of the Peer-to-Peer Connections field. The Peer to Peer Connections RTC
dialog box will open.

4
6. The runtime containers that may be connected are listed in the Peer to Peer
Connections RTC dialog box. The following settings can be made for each runtime
container:

• Connectable: Check the box if a peer to peer connection is to be made. (Any

peer to peer connection is bidirectional.
• Send Cycle (ms): The intervals at which peer to peer communication is carried
out to the connected rtc.
• Maximum Signals: The maximum number of signals that can be sent via the
connection.

7. Click on Save to accept the settings, otherwise click on Cancel.

Note: The S7 connections of the corresponding runtime containers must be reloaded

after changing Peer to Peer Connections.

5
8. Check the peer to peer communication

Use the following steps to check the detail of the peer to peer communication including
the amount of programmed peer to peer communication links and the detail of the links:

6
Select the runtime container to check and push “Calculate”:

7
By right click on the “Preview Incoming” or “Preview Outgoing” cell, the detail of all
connections will be shown. The details can be export to the Excel spreadsheet for further
analysis.
