MODULE No.02 FINAL

TITLE: CURVILININEAR MOTION OF A PARTICE
INTRODUCTION Translation of a rigid body has been defined as the motion in
which a straight line passing through any two points of the
body always remains parallel to its initial position. This
definition requires that all particles of the translating body
have exactly the same motion. Hence in discussing
curvilinear translation, the body may be assumed to be
concentrated at its center of gravity and treated as a
particle as in the of rectilinear translation.
LEARNING 1. Engage in life-long learning and an understanding to the
OUTCOMES needs to keep currents of the developments in the specific
field of practice.
2. Apply knowledge of mathematics, physical, life and
information sciences; and Technical discipline appropriate to
the field of discipline

LEARNING After completing this course, the student must be able to:
OBJECTIVES 1. Understand the concept of kinetics and kinematics;
2. Value the importance of learning the various methods
used in Dynamics of rigid bodies;
3. Formulate various methods in solving work energy method
Solve the following problems:

1. A motorcycle moves at a constant speed of v = 12 m/s around a curved road of radius r =

100m. What is most nearly the magnitude and general direction of the motorcycle
acceleration?

a. 1.1m/s² away from the center of curvature.

b. 1.1m/s² toward the center of curvature.
c. 1.4m/s² away from the center of curvature.
d. 1.4m/s² toward the center of curvature.

2. A rope is used to tow an 800 kg car with free rolling wheels over a smooth, level road.
The rope will break if the tension exceeds 2000N.What is the greatest acceleration that
the car reach without breaking rope?

a. 1.2m/s² b. 2.5m/s² c. 3.8m/s² d. 4.5m/s²

3. A particles moves on a circular path of 20ft radius so that its arc distance from a fixed
point on the path is given by s = 4tᶟ - 10t where s is in feet and t in seconds. Compute the
total acceleration at the end of 2sec.

a. 86.8ft/sec² b. 88.5ft/s² c. 87.8ft/s² d. 89.5ft/s²
