future classics:
In this new edition, emphasis is placed on the use of
methodology to simplify written and verbal communication as
presented in the technical summaries at the beginning of each
technique.
cut:
The six fundamental techniques cover the basis of one length
cutting, layering and graduation demonstrated over a variety
of lengths and textures. The three precision cuts create
stronger perimeter shapes with classic lines for hair worn
above the shoulders. The three transient techniques combine
layering and texturising to create shapes that are soft and
versatile. The two men’s cuts highlight the key techniques
of graduation and scissor over comb to create strong
masculine shapes.
future classics:
colour:
A collection of 14 colour techniques, adaptable to varying
shapes, lengths & textures incorporating guidance on
developing a wider colour palette.
The fundamental techniques will give the skills required when
mastering classic foil highlights.
The progressive techniques are designed to promote ways of
achieving textured results whilst the transient techniques will
create more versatile colour.
intro:

terminology:
cutting system:
terminology is broken down into four key points:

partings & sections:

describe how the hair is separated prior to cutting.
the seven parting & sectioning terms are:
PROFILE: centre forehead to centre nape
HORSESHOE: recession to recession
HORIZONTAL: parallel to the horizon
DIAGONAL FORWARD: angles forward towards the face
DIAGONAL BACK: angles backward away from the face
RADIAL: crown to hairline
PIVOTING: rotating from a central point
terminology:
distribution:
describes how the hair is combed in relation to the parting or
section. the four distributive terms are:
NATURAL FALL: combed with gravity
OVERDIRECTED: anything other than natural fall
‘T’ TO THE PARTING : perpendicular to the parting
90˚: perpendicular to the head

elevation:
describes the level at which the hair is lifted a

describes the level at which the hair is lifted away from the
head. the four terms to describe elevation are:
0˚ IN THE COMB: no elevation
1 FINGERS DEPTH: slight elevation
45˚: midway between 0˚ and 90˚ (graduation)
90˚: perpendicular to the head
terminology:
cut:
describes the shape of the line being cut. the five terms to
describe shape are:
SQUARE: a horizontal line
VISUAL: a variable line
PARALLEL: a line maintaining equal distance from the parting
VERTICAL: perpendicular to the horizontal
ROUND: following the headshape
fundamental:
fundamental techniques form the basis of hair cutting.
the techniques can be adapted to suit different lengths and
textures. they include one length cutting, graduation
and layering

precision:
precision cuts create strength through the perimeter edge of a
shape and are worn above shoulder level
transient:
transient techniques create textured lengths, internally and
through perimeter edges. they are fluid, personalised shapes
which allow adaptability and versatility

mens:
mens cutting techniques create strong, masculine shapes on
varying lengths and textures
