The Human Muscoloskeletal System
The Human Muscoloskeletal System
The System
It is built up from muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments. They give us the ability of
movement and other uses like support and protection. If one part of the system injures it
will have effects on the whole system. I will talk about the structure and the functions of the
system.
The Skeleton
It is mainly the supporting stucture of
the system with other five functions as
movement, protection, production of
blood cells, storage of minerals and
endocrine regulation (in connection
with hormons). Altogether it contains
206 bones linked with joints. These
joints can be divided into three
categories as: fixed joint, like in the
skull, this means it has no ability to
move; the semi-mobile joint, like the spine, this can move partially; the mobile joints which
prove full movement. As well as joints, bones have five different types but they have one
thing in common. From outside there is the cortical bone and inside it there is the spongy
trabecular bone and the bone marrow which produce blood cells. It means that the bone is
easy to carry but it is very flexible and strong. Also the bone’s special abilty that it can repair
itself. The bones are held together by ligaments and they are attached to the muscle by
tendons.
