1. Filtration is the process of separating suspended solid matter from a liquid, by causing

the latter to pass through the pores of some substance, called a filter. The liquid which
has passed through the filter is called the filtrate.
2. Evaporation is the process by which water changes from a liquid to a gas or
vapor. Evaporation is the primary pathway that water moves from the liquid state back
into the water cycle as atmospheric water vapor.
3. Decantation is a process for the separation of mixtures, by removing a layer of liquid,
generally one from which a precipitate has settled. The purpose may be either to
produce a clean decant, or to remove undesired liquid from the precipitate (or other
layers).
4. Fermentation is a metabolic process that converts sugar to acids, gases, or alcohol. It
occurs in yeast and bacteria, and also in oxygen-starved muscle cells, as in the case of
lactic acid fermentation
5. Distillation is a process that can be used to separate a pure liquid from a mixture of
liquids. It works when the liquids have different boiling points. Distillation is commonly
used to separate ethanol - the alcohol in alcoholic drinks - from water.
6. Sedimentation is a physical water treatment processusing gravity to remove
suspended solids from water. Solid particles entrained by the turbulence of moving water
may be removed naturally by sedimentation in the still water of lakes and oceans.
7. Magnetic separation is a process in which magnetically susceptible material is
extracted from a mixture using a magnetic force. This separation technique can be
useful in mining iron as it is attracted to a magnet. ... It is also used in electromagnetic
cranes that separate magnetic material from scraps.
8. The dissolution of gases, liquids, or solids into a liquid or other solvent is a process by
which these original states become solutes (dissolved components), forming a solution
of the gas, liquid, or solid in the original solvent.
9. The definition of insoluble is something that cannot be solved or dissolved.
