ME65 PIT: AGRICULTURAL WASTE SHREDDER MACHINE

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

The conventional agricultural waste disposal is a

traditional and oldest method of waste disposal in which
agriculture wastes are dumped as it is to degrade in a
particular place for decomposing. As the wastes are
dumped as such, it takes more time to degrade and it
causes environmental pollution. The waste shredder
machine aims to reduce the agricultural waste and convert
it into useful nourishing fertilizer.

Agriculture is one of the most important sectors in

the Economy. Nowadays the government is currently on the
platform of improving the agricultural industry in the
Philippines and providing them the best abutment .It has
been realized that large quantity of agricultural wastes
remains being not utilized because handling, storage and
management related difficulties. The reasons are their
low bulk density, large area/volume for storage. The
farmers on the field burn most of these wastes after the
harvesting of crops. Thus the agricultural waste burning
phenomena is being repeated every year. In order to use
these wastes for some economic benefits, so the necessary
of such machine was felt to utilize all kinds of
agricultural waste after shredding, which could be
economical and practicable.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

The conventional agricultural-waste disposal is a

particular place for decomposing. As the wastes are
dumped as such, it takes more time to degrade and it
causes environmental pollution. The waste shredder

phenomena is being repeated every year.

1.3 Objectives

1.3.1. To design and produce a working prototype of

a
Agricultural Waste Shredder Machine.

1.3.2. To be able to design a machine that

centralized on the agricultural waste handling
problem.

1.3.3. To come up with a machine that will shred

agricultural waste converting it into
nourishing
fertilizer thus for cacao pod as a raw
material

for briquettes for coal.

1.4 Significance of the Study

This study will aim to reduce the agricultural waste

and convert it into useful nourishing fertilizer. Also for
additional implication this machine will also open an
opportunity for cacao farmers. In cacao industry, farmers
only make use of the beans and the husk thus dumping the
cacao shells also worry them. With the latest studies
cacao shell are used for making briquettes for coal.

1.5 Scope and Delimitation

This study will focus only on the shredding machine

efficiency to help the farmers on agricultural waste
management. This machine is also specified for Cacao pods
and other agricultural waste and do not include hardwood
materials. The specified cacao pods additional
implication will help cacao farmers to zero waste
production from beans to pods.
