Transport in Bogotá

Transmilenio TM
This is the most uncomfortable way to travel in Bogotá but It´s the quickest way to get
around the city. There are many stations into the city and some in the nearby town
Soacha. There are a few green buses called Alimentadores. They take people from
neighbourhoods to stations. You need a card to use TM and it costs $5.000. You put
money in the card and when you get on the station the ticket is discounted. This ticket
costs $2.500. It isn´t cheap un less you have a disability or old age benefit. You can buy TM
cards at stations and you can put your name. If the card has your name you can recover
the balance if you lose it. With this card you can transfer to SITP (Integrated Public
Transport System) buses in the first 90 minutes without pay more.
It is uncomfortable to travel by TM because is the most crowded transport and there are a
lot of sellers, burglars and immigrants asking for money.

SITP
SITP buses are blue and orange in the city and red wine who come from rural areas. They
are not as fast as TM but they are more comfortable. You need the same TM card and
patience for use them because they have low frequency. In rush hours they move very
slowly. The ticket costs $2.300 and you can transfer to TM in the first 90 minutes using
your card and pay $200. They are the best way to see the city.
Taxis
Taxis are yellow in Bogotá. They are the most comfortable and the safest way to get
around city and they aren´t expensive. You can order one by phone or apps or take it on
the street. In rush hour it´s almost impossible to get one. Normally you tell the driver
where you want to go before you get in the taxi and the driver tell you if yes or not.
Taxis operate 24 hours a day and at nights are the only option.
Taxi drivers in Colombia are very close and constantly support each other.

Apps: Uber, Beat, Didi, in Driver

In Bogotá you can use private vehicles requested by applications too. They have not been
regulated in the country, so it can be problematic to determine who responds in the event
of an accident. There are just as expensive as taxis but they are always available.

Motorbike
Before the Covid-19, Bogota had a motorcycle transport service called Picap, which was
suspended by the government but was the fastest way to get around the city. It was
requested by an application. I hope they come back soon.
Bikes
They are currently the best way to get around (because of the Covid). There are several
cycle lanes. Unfortunately it is dangerous, for thieves, so you must be careful.
It is the healthiest and most environmentally friendly means of transportation. Most
people have a bike but it is also possible to rent some especially in tourist areas such as
downtown and Usaquen.
