Assignment 1 201820444
A student performed an experiment using POLARIMETER at room temperature and using Na
D-line as radiation source (wavelength 589 nm). The student measured the observed rotation of
glucose with five standard solutions by weighing 3g, 6g, 9g, 12g, 15g and the results were as
shown in the next table.
Weight of 3g 6g 9g 12 g 15 g
glucose
Conc. (g %) 3g% 6g% 9g% 12g% 15g%
α 6 8.8 10.8 16 19.4
1. Calculate the conc g% of the standard solutions, if you know that the student prepared the
glucose in 100 ml vol. flask.
2. The part of the instrument that converts the light into plane-polarized light is called:
………Polarizer……………………………
3. Using the graph paper below, plot the calibration curve and label both X-axis and Y-
axis with the right parameters.
