Jayanendra Chand Thakuri (Nepali:जयने च द ठकुर ,

1942[1] – 31 May 2020) was a Nepali actor known for his work in
Nepali cinema. Thakuri acted in more than 100 films, including Thakuri
Kanchhi, Bishwas, Maya Preeti, Pheri Bhetaula, Angarakshyak and Born 1942
Parkhi Base. He died on 31 May 2020, having been paralysed for Baitadi, Nepal
nine years and bedridden the last six months. He was married to

Personal life
Thakuri was born in Baitadi of Far-Western Nepal, to father, Sheel Chanda, and mother, Rukmini Devi
Chanda.[1] He was in the Indian Army.[2] He played cricket from Jawalakhel Youth Club.[2] Thakuri was
married to Shanti Chand Thakuri, with whom he had one daughter, Chaya Upreti.[3][4]

Career
Thakuri debuted as an actor from the 1982 Nepali film Jeevan Rekha.[5] Since then, he appeared in more
than 100 films,[5] and multiple television serials.[6] He starred in Kanchhi, Biswas, Maya Priti, Feri
Bhetaula, Angarakshyak and Parkhi Base.[3][7] He made his Bollywood debut with Panchavati released in
1986; he also appeared in the Pakistani film Phani.[5][8] Thakuri's health started to get worse, when he was
filming Bhagi Bhagi Najau (2012), after an accident at the sets.[3] The accident paralysed his left leg and
since then he was undergoing treatment.[3] Bhagi Bhagi Najau was the last film he appeared in, after acting
for almost four decades.[3][9] He was awarded Abhiyan Actor of Decade in 1995.[2] The staff of Artha
Sansar wrote that Thakuri made big contributions to Nepali cinema.[10]

Illness and death


Thakuri had been paralysed for the last nine years, having injured himself during a film-shoot in 2011. He
had additional health problems including a high blood pressure and diabetes.[5] He was mostly bedridden the
last six months of his life.[3]
On 31 May 2020, Thakuri died at 11:20 a.m. (NPT) in his own home in Lalitpur.[9][11][12] He was cremated
the same day at the Pashupati Electric Crematorium.[11] The funeral was attended by the members of Film
Artists Association of Nepal and Film Development Board.[3]
