Learning Competency: Identify various potential earthquake hazards. (DRR11/12-If-g-17)

I. Objective/s:

1. Identify different parts of the circulatory system.

2. Explain the different types of circulation.

II. Subject Matter

The Circulatory System

III. Learning Resources

Media/Internet sources

IV. Procedure/Learning Activities

A. Review: Complete the flow chart on how gases circulate in the body.

INHALATION EXHALATION

B. Concept Formation

The coordination of both the respiratory system and circulatory system is vital to the delivery of oxygen in the body. In
the previous module you learned how it works. In this module, we will focus on the components of the circulatory system and
how they work together to perform one of the most important function in our body.
C. ACTIVITY
“Mind Map”
Instruction: From the previous module you were able to learn and gather information about the role of the Circulatory System.
Below is a MIND MAP on the components of the circulatory system. Using your knowledge on the previous module, supply the
blank boxes with information related to each component (Heart, Blood Cells, and Blood Vessels).

D. ANALYSIS:

1. Based from activity, what do you think is the main function of the circulatory system?

2. How important is the role of the circulatory system to our body?

D. ABSTRACTION:

The Circulatory System

The Circulatory System is a life support system that helps provide oxygen and nourishment to the cells of our body.
Its main function is to distribute materials (oxygen and nutrients) to the different parts of the body. At the same time it also
transport waste away from the body.

The major parts of the Circulatory System

1. Heart – a muscle that pumps blood throughout the body.

Figure 2. The human heart

2. Blood Vessels – carries blood throughout the body.

There are three types of blood vessels in the body.

 Arteries – carry oxygenated blood from the

heart to the different parts of the body.
 Veins – carry deoxygenated blood from the
different parts of the body back to the heart.
 Capillaries – the tiniest blood vessel in the
body. It connects the smallest arteries to the
smallest vein. This is also the site where
exchange of material (Nutrients and Gases)
happen.

3. Blood – a tissue that carries the material (Nutrients, Oxygen, or Carbon Dioxide) in the body. Composed of several types
of cells namely:

 Red Blood Cell – has a special protein called

hemoglobin that is responsible for carrying
oxygen and carbon dioxide.
 White Blood Cell – cells that kills harmful material
or substances that enters our body.
 Platelets – fragments of cell that help in clotting
the blood when there is an open wound in the
body.

Types of Circulation

There are three major types of circulation in the body depending on where the material is distributed.

1. Pulmonary Circulation – this is the movement of blood from your heart to you lungs.
2. Coronary Circulation – refers to the movement of blood to the different tissues of the heart.
3. Systemic Circulation – the movement of blood from the heart to the several parts of the body.

E. APPLICATION

Your circulatory system can be compared to a network of highways. The road represents the blood
vessels and the cargo trucks that carries food supply represent the blood. Imagine if there is a road accident
in the high way that causes traffic, will the cargo trucks reach its destination and distribute food to the
community? If the community represent the various cells in your body, what do you think will happen?
V. ASSESSMENT

Instruction: Complete the graphic organizer below and supply the missing information.
