First of all, the writer wants to express his thanks to Allah SWT, because of His
bless and grace,the entitled ” HORTATORY EXPOSITION” can be finished on time.

This paper is a requirement to fulfill the assignment from Mrs. Conny, M.,Hum. The
writer also thanks to her for all the guidance to complete it.

In completing this paper, the writer faced many problems, but with the help of many
people, all the problems could be passed. May Allah SWT give the blessing for them.

We realize that there are still many shortcomings, so we hope any criticism and
suggestions to the reader that is built to perfect the English language paper.Hopefully this
English paper to add insightto readers in the future.

 HORTATORY EXPOSITION

 Definition of Hortatory Exposition

Hortatory exposition text is a kind of English text that belongs to the
argumentative text. Hortatory exposition is a type of English text which represents
the author’s attempt to influence the reader to do something or act in a particular
way. In hortatory Exposition Text, the authors give some opinions about certain
things to reinforce the main idea of the text.

 Purpose of Hortatory Exposition

Hortatory exposition is used to persuade the reader or listener that
something should or should not be the case or be done.

 Generic Structure Hortatory Exposition

1. Thesis = the writer point of view about the topic discussed.
2. Arguments = series of argument which strengthen the thesis stated before.
3. Recommendation = the writer gives recommenation to the reader.

 Language Feature of Hortatory Exposition

1. Simple present tense
2. There are several arguments that begin with: firstly, secondly, thirdly ...
3. It contains recommendation that begin with:
- in my opinion, it’s better ...
- i think ... should ...
- i think ... should be ...
- for these reasons ... should ...

 Example of Hortatory Exposition

WEARING HELMET
We often hear lots of stories from road regarding people taking spill on
motorcycle when they are riding without using helmet. Mostly the riders badly
end up in mess. Wearing a fitted protective helmet offers many benefits which
reduces the negative aspect of riding.
Firstly and the most important is the wearing the correct helmet can save a
rider’s life. The recommended designs of motorcycle helmets can provide total
protection. They not only protect riders from geting a worse road injured accident
but also from flying bugs, such as rain, sleet, mud and the other potential
projectiles.
 Secondly, wearing a helmet can gives the riders a matter of style. Helmets
give the opportunity for rider to express the image they may want to project when
riding on the way. This benefit may not be important to some people, but to
others, it means a lot and important. By choosing the most appropriate helmet
from all of the all various styles, such as beanie, shortly, German, and many
others.
However, what most important is wearing helmet when riding is a metter
of using it properly. In my opinion, bikers should use the helmets which are fixed
to their head. It is really not good if they places simply the helmets on the head
without setting the properly. I think the bikers should fasten the helmet correctly
to their head in order to get safe and feel comfort.
