Yawkey Nonprofit Internship Program Overview for Employers

Boston University Center for Career Development (CCD) offers funded internships thanks to a generous gift from the trustees of the Yawkey
Foundations. This program enables eligible, selected students to participate in qualified unpaid internships by providing living allowance stipends.

About the Yawkey Nonprofit Employer Responsibilities

Internship Program:
Summer 2020
ELIGIBLE CLASS STANDING: Sophomores, Juniors
TYPES OF ORGANIZATIONS: Nonprofits
STIPEND AMOUNTS: $4,000 (minimum 300 hours),
$2,000 (minimum 150 hours), $1,000 (minimum 75
hours)
PROGRAM CHARACTERISTICS: Eligible sophomores
and juniors apply for living allowance stipends disbursed
from Boston University so that they may accept qualified,
unpaid internships at nonprofit organizations. The
program has an educational framework for planning,
engagement, and reflection. Students must secure an
internship at a nonprofit before applying.
Program participants are required to meet with their
supervisor at the start of the internship to discuss goals
and expectations. The intern then completes a learning
agreement. This form must be submitted by the end of
the second week of the internship.
Supervisors are asked to provide training and
supervision throughout the internship. CCD staff will
check in with the supervisor at the midpoint to ensure
everything is going well. At the conclusion of the
internship, supervisors are asked to evaluate the intern
and provide feedback about the program.
Internships cannot be affiliated with BU, and cannot
be completed for academic credit. For summer 2020,
virtual internships may be considered. Internships
cannot provide wages or stipends to program
participants or interns in similar roles. Internships must
also include supervision by a full-time employee.

Recruiting Program Interns

The CCD Funded Internship is not a placement program.
Students are required to secure their own internships and
to provide a letter of intent from the employer (on official
letterhead) confirming that the internship is unpaid and
meets program eligibility status.
