VERTICAL ELECTRICAL SOUNDING TEST REPORT

Name of Beneficiary: Public Health Engineering

Site Address: Tehsil Kharian & District Gujrat(Agriculture Field Area)

Date : 27/04/2017

Introduction:
Electrical Resistivity meter survey is widely used in the world for ground-water investigation because it has the
Advantage of prediction regarding quality of water as well.
This method is used to pinpoint the suitable site for drilling to get fresh groundwater and provide information prior to drilling
about subsurface litho logy, ground-water and quality, interface between fresh and saline water, presence and thickness of aquifer
(s), depth of bed rock, presence of impermeable layer(s),depth of water table, etc.
It is also used to get insight in the Hydro geological set up of an area with relatively low cost and less time and to locate/Install

water wells for industrials agricultural and municipal purposes .

Methodology:
Electrical Resistivity Survey was conducted on the request of above said beneficiary with Terrameter SAS-1000. The
topography of the area was even to conduct the survey. Electric Current was passed through the Earth by means of two outer
electrodes and the potential drop caused due to the resistance of sub-surface material was measured at the two inner electrodes.
Apparent resistivity values at different electrode spacing were calculated using Ohms law and the geometrical factor involved in
it. Apparent resistivity’s being average resistivity’s, did not represent the true electrical characteristics of individual sub-surface
layer. The Apparent Resistivity was calculated on the basis of the field observations; interpretation was made by software IX-1D.
The True Resistivity’s of different sub-surface layers were calculated and Interpreted in terms of litho logy on the basis of field
geology.

Results and Discussion

Layer No. Depth in Feet Resistivity Interpretation

(ohm-m)
Surface Zone
1 00 to20 67 (Surficial Material)

2 20 to 140 44 (Seepage zone )

Marginal quality water, saline water
Zone comprising alternate layers of sand stone and with layers of
Clay having moderate yield of ground water for domestic purpose.
3 140 to 450 36

Recommendation:

Keeping in view the results of Electrical Resistivity Meter Survey at site interpreted through IXID interpex USA soft-
ware, that there are marginal chances of availability of confirm yield of fresh aquifer at site for ground water exploration.
As the layer up to 20 feet is composed of surficial material of loam clay mixed with fine sand particles/ containing
no ground water.
The layer existing in the area in between the depth of 20 to 140 feet which have the true resistivity of 41 (ohm-m)
which indicates the presence as intermix of sand/gravel with alternate layers of clay with moderate yield of water domestic
purpose only.
The underground layer from the depth of 140 to 450 feet ,the true resistivity of 36ohm-m which show Zone comprising alternate
layers of sand stone and with layers of hard loam clay having marginal yield of ground water .

The test well, it good yielding may be converted into tube well.
The potential of well be tested with the compressor before conversion of test well into production well.
Well logging for obtaining optimal yield of ground water is strongly recommended.
