You recently completed a new course at an international college.

The College Principal has

asked you to write a report on the course highlighting its strengths and weaknesses. You
should also make recommendations about how the course could be improved.

‘Theatre for children’

Introduction

The principal aim of this report is to highlight the main strengths and weaknesses of the new
course ‘Theatre for children’. The final section makes recommendations as to how the course
could be improved.

Strengths and weaknesses

I conducted interviews with a random selection of students at the end of the semester. Most
of them praised the enthusiasm of the teachers and their materials. The novelty of course and
its popularity is also one of its greatest strengths. There is no course like this in any other
university.

Nevertheless, the fact that it has recently being created makes its structure weak and
underdeveloped. Among those students who were not totally satisfied, most attached their
discontent to the way it was structured. They also argued that the last days they had to work
extra hard to finish all the materials of the course. With a better planned structure and
materials this could have been prevented.

Recommendations

Clearly, more could be done to improve the quality of this new course. I would make the
following recommendations:

- Encourage the students to give their opinion about the course in a final evaluation
sheet.
- Praise the teachers whenever they do a great job and be aware of their attitudes
towards the course and the students.
- Study the structure of the course not only at the end but also during the course.

This final recommendation will encourage the directive team to improve the weaknesses of
the course but also praise and continue the strengths to attract more students.
Your local town council would like to improve the appearance of the town by creating more
green spaces and by introducing more street art such as sculptures or wall paintings. Write a
proposal for the council in which you make specific suggestions about both green spaces and
street art. Your proposal should also explain how you think your suggestions will improve
the quality of life in your town.

IMPROVING THE APPEARANCE OF THE TOWN

Introduction

The principal aim of this proposal is to make suggestions about both green spaces and street
art to improve the appearance of our town. The final section will show my own suggestions to
improve the quality of life in our town.

Green areas

Following a survey among the inhabitants of our town, over 90% of them stated that
introducing green spaces will increase the popularity and health of our town. Some of the
abandoned and nearly destroyed old blocks could be transformed into beautiful green areas
with sculptures and fountains. This will require a precise plan and budget, but we could all
make small donations for this aim.

Street art

Comments made at the end of the survey suggest that the young population is highly
interested in helping on this project. Some of our most famous graffiti artists stated that they
would paint some of the main empty walls in the town centre for free. This will make our time
an outdoors museum and it could be an artistic attraction for tourists.

Recommendations

- The result of the survey suggest that we have the support of our population and that
we should make use of this, e.g. hiring the graffiti artists to paint the walls.
- Create a plan which use the space in the most adequate way.

I recommend that there should be an inquiry into how the time, the space and the resources
we have can be best used for the aim of transforming our town into a greener and more
artistic version of it.
