Statement of Purpose

I am a zestful dreamy girl who fell in deep love with the Information Resource Management,
introductory course during the second semester at sophomore year and now dying hard to
propose that discipline! The first thing is that my temptation for Information Management as
well as my determination to continue my education in this field is the denouement of my
profound interest in Information Studies.

Background:

Where:

After completing Higher Secondary certificates examination with the merit rank of 1oth among girls, I
took admission at the highest glorious universities of Bangladesh, named University of Dhaka into
Information Science and Library Management department. I won’t feel red-faced to bring to light that it
was not as easy as falling off a log for me to accept this discipline since I cherished another discipline to
complete my higher studies. By the time, I started doing class and I got erudite faculty as my course
teachers. And I was getting addicted gradually as I found it thought-provoking.

What studied?

In the freshmen year, I got bare-bones courses like fundamentals of Information Science and Library
Management discipline, basics of information and communication technologies, introduction to
classification, cataloging, archive and record management and on and on. But later, in the sophomore
year, I mesmerized with the two words of a course, ‘Information’ and ‘Resource’. And it is accounted to
turn my standpoint towards this discipline.

Little by little, I get to know about Information Resources Development, correspondence between
Information and Society, Information Marketing and Advocacy, Indexing and Abstracting, Database
Design and Applications, Documentation and Communication, Library Administration and Management,
Automation of Information Institutions, Applied statistics and so on till the junior year of my bachelor.
And again, in the senior year of Bachelor, I had four courses e.g. Information Resource and Knowledge
Sharing, Information Resource Management, Research Methodology which was totally stimulating.

field of study

In addition to this, majoring in Information Science and Library Management, during the last
grade of my masters, I specially become more curious about Knowledge Sharing, when I choose
another course, titled, “Knowledge Management”. Because Knowledge management refers to a
multidisciplinary approach to achieve organizational objectives by making the simplest use of
data. And later I can relate this field with others subfield like information and media, public
health and public policy for research purpose. Especially when I read an article titled the Impact of
public policy to share knowledge makes me urge to know about this field. This inevitable thirst
leads me that I had made the exact decision for both my career and obtaining specialization in
Knowledge Management field also.

Any related experience:

Late that spring, I secured funding from the Bangladesh National Scientific Technical
Documentation Center to work as an internee under the Knowledge specialists. Along with the
other internees, I worked on the task of collecting and processing data, providing and
distributing knowledge to the user. I spent three weeks helping to gather explicit data like
articles, research paper, newspaper clipping related to health, education, scientific invention,
information technology, communication technology, artificial intelligence, astronomy issues by
using Research4life (HINARI, AGORA, OARE and ARDI ). I also got to learn how to do
communication with foreign knowledge centers. My task was to make a presentation on the
shortcomings of this knowledge center which was appraised well by the IT secretary and I
secured first position.

My field notebook from that internship is full of observations – their quality increased not only
my zeal as I gained experience during the internship – but also questions. “Why don’t they
follow proper public policy rules in order to collect information? Why didn’t they build an
international standard self knowledge domain? And how will they provide information after
5years as they preserve an article just for one year? These questions made me crazy to do
research on this topic.

In the next fall, I with other fellows went to field trip at various Information institutions and
libraries of Dhaka, capital city of Bangladesh e.g. BENBEIS, National library, National archive
center, special library etc. There, I was seeking about my questions regarding to knowledge
management process, sharing method of knowledge, copyright issues, and lacking of the
process.

research

The following summer, aiming to learn the pros and cons of research, I got to learn how to
analyze data, collecting method of data, using php factor, variables analyzing etc by using SPSS
Software.

I wrote an article, titled, ‘E-resources used by Eastern University students’. And it was accepted
to publish in the Siera journal.

Library management Software:

In addition with this, I also got chance to do a specialized 1 week course on the Automation
software of digital resource processing.

Project:

As I had the certificate of Library automation software so I got chance to do work as paid data
entry operator at the prestigious Institution, IBA library of University of Dhaka. There, I worked
with other 4 members under the supervision of Dr. sheikh. Dspace, koha.

Future plans after receiving degree:

I will come back to my root and I want to join as faculty at my beloved university where once my
dream was started in sophomore year. In addition with this, I believe that teaching and sharing
knowledge is as important as generating it. I want to give it to the next generation what I
absorbed in the entire curriculum. Most importantly, I want to do research work on knowledge
sharing to fulfill SDG goals. And later, I want to apply for my PhD.

What your specific interests are in your field

Knowledge Management is the most rated subfield of Information Studies and library
management. As I mentioned earlier that in the introductory class, this term made me fall in love
with it so in the day end, I found my profound interest on knowledge management. Besides this,
in Bangladesh, I had the luck to visit couple of Information institutions, libraries and
documentation center. This visit gave birth to lots of questions and I need to solve their answers.

Why this program is needed for your professional development:

I have two tenderness in my post grad life. One is knowledge management and another is
towards to research work. And through this program, I will be able to enhance the research
knowledge on my desired research area. This program will make me capable enough for both
the future faculty position and researcher career.
Why Malaysia:

Firstly, Malaysia is one of the 3 lions of Asian economy. And it has sound political conditions
along with developed education system with high ranked research universities, operated by at
hand faculty. So, for this reason, I am not willing to go far to pursue my post grad.

Why that particular university -- courses, faculty, research projects/facilities :

Firstly, my research area matched with it’s research project.

Secondly, because of its high qualified research faculties

To pave the way of my PhD and to become specialized in Knowledge management field.

Working experiences:

Worked at British Council as the library associate

Working as assistant executive at the Eastern University library.

Conclusion:

Last but not least, I am well aware of the high reputation about the research capability of
Chinese universities and their ranking also. I also analysis about the other countries M.A degree
of my desired discipline but research area of Malaysian universities are so sophisticated and
matched with my interest and this is the vocal point of applying for Chinese A type scholarship.
Notably, I am quite sure that MA in Information Management will also lead me to earn PhD in
Information Studies. And this degree will pave the way of becoming a faculty with researcher
qualities.
