productive business in Guyana and has been in business for over 150 years. The
researcher visited the business on Monday 4th of November 2019. It was observed by
the researcher that workers and visitors who want to enter the business compound
would first have to go through security check before they do so. Visitors have to make
appointments with the receptionist at the front desk and be given a visitors card before
entering the compound. The business also does not allow cellphones to be used in the
compound as a way of protecting they produce their goods and stay above competitors.
The researcher benefited greatly from the interview along with the observations made
by themselves. The investigation conducted shows that the major functions of the
Human Resource Department were recruiting and selecting suitable, qualified persons,
Training and retraining employees for the benefit of both parties- Employers and
employees and to attend to Staff welfare. The Human Resource Management office
attend to staff welfare by engaging in activities that helps to provide an environment
that protects, promotes and support the well being of all employees in the organization.
The Human Resource Department Is also involved with the recruiting and selecting f
suitable and qualified persons and training and retraining of employees. Recruiting
workers is done with the intention of selecting workers who are skilled and qualified to
fill vacancies. Furthermore, once these workers are selected, training will be
administered by seminars, online training or self-study. This ensures that workers are up
to date with the changes in the organization. Employees re trained 2-3 weeks before
they are promoted. Some of the roles of the HR clerk in the business are handling
telephone calls, attending to staff welfare and preparing and maintaining employee’s
files with personal records e.g personal history, application form. Some of the
responsibilities of the HR clerk are to provide and supply adequate supply of papers,
forms and documents used in the human resource office, protect confidential
information from unauthorized persons and liase with other departments, trade unions,
the media and employment agencies. The researcher found out that the human
resource department is important in the business because it is responsible for the
recruiting of new employees so that there is a continuous flow of productivity in the
business and also because it keeps all confidential documents about employees, the
researcher learnt that some of the problems faced in the HR department were balance
between Management and employees, training, development and compensation and
