1. As an engineering student, why do you need to learn Ethics?

I need to learn Ethics for me to know what’s right and wrong when we have our jobs. There are
things in the work industry that we do not know yet because we haven’t experienced it. For example, at first
I didn’t know that reviewing other engineers’ work without their consent is unethical. So learning
engineering ethics is very important.

2. How can you be moral?

I can be moral by applying what I learn in Ethics. Learning ethics without applying it to your daily
life is not being moral. I can be moral if I live and do what is good. Also, doing good with all my heart,
without pushing myself that I have to do good because of the consequences, is being moral. The way that it
is natural in me doing good, not because of the conditions. That way I can be moral.

3. Distinguish Ethics from Religion

Ethics is a study or science of the morality of human acts. Ethics is the study of what is good and
bad as a rational being. Religion is a system of beliefs and practices that is based on faith. It started from
the influence of people of what they think is the correct way to live.

4. Differentiate Ethical Norms and Law

Ethical Norms studies human motivation. It explores thoughts and feelings. It requires that man
desires that which is good and act in accordance with that desire. While law requires that we should
perform the required action whether we like it or not, because if we disobey, there will be consequences.
Laws do not judge thoughts and desires.

5. What are the attributes of Human Acts

- it must be performed by a conscious person who is aware of what he is doing and of its
consequences.
- it must be performed by and agent who is acting freely and that is by his own volition and powers.
- it must be performed by an agent who decides willfully to perform their act.

6. Discuss Moral, Immoral, and Amoral actions

Moral actions are good and permissible. They are those actions which are in conformity with the
norm of the morality. Examples are paying a debt, loving enemies, telling the truth.
Immoral Actions are bad and evil and not permissible. These are actions which are not in
conformity with the norm of morality. Examples are committing murder, stealing money.
Amoral actions are those actions which stand neutral to the norm of the morality. They are neither
good nor bad, depending on the situation. But, amoral actions may be moral or immoral because of the
circumstances attendant to them. For example, playing online games is amoral, so it is neither good nor
bad. But playing online games while in the middle of the class is wrong. Playing online games in
tournament representing our country is good.

7. What is imputability of Human Acts

Imputability of a human act means that the person performing the act is liable for such act. It
involves the notion of guilt or innocence. Thus, actions are either praiseworthy or blameworthy. Actions are
attributed to the doer as their principal cause.

8. What is punishment for wrong doings?

Punishments or sanctions are the deserving actions if someone do wrong. This is a basic
requirement of justice. In the law, punishment of wrong doings is that when someone do an immoral act
that basically is against the law. This includes fines, imprisonment, etc. Religion also have punishment, for
example is in Christianity, where if one did an action against God’s law, then the punishment is after death
where one’s spirit or soul will go to hell.

9. Why is cheating an immoral act?

Cheating is an act where a person take advantage or is benefited without being fair with other
people. For example, in the board exams some people are cheating using their calculators. They program
their calculators in order to cheat, so that they can pass without being fair. This can lead to incompetency of
their projects, or infrastructures that can lead to wrong computations and lead to accidents. So that is why
cheating is immoral, because it can lead to successive events that can harm others.
