The (Environmental Impact Assessment) prescribed activities Order 1987 Environmental Quality

Act, 1974 section 34A specifies the activities that are subjected to EIA. RP ELVANA Group
and Company Sdn. Bhd construction activities require environmental impact assessment. The
activities will be and divided into 3 categories which are in terms of project size (as area),
capacity (quantum), other activities are not defined by any unit of measures.

Firstly the activities defined by quantum, where activity on the depots construction for
the storage of diesel, petrol and gas that stored up to the 60 000 barrel. RP ELVANA Group and
Company Sdn. Bhd which uses up to 200 tonnes and more per day of scrap iron as raw material
in their iron and steel construction activities will be subjected to EIA and the construction of
steam generated power station that burns fossil fuels that exceed the power capacity of more than
10 megawatts is categorized as prescribe activities. [ CITATION DOE90 \l 1033 ]

While for the activities defined by project size any conversion of forest to other land use
which are 50 hectares and more and logging of forest that are in the area of reservoirs or areas
that are opposite with national parks which exceed area of 500 hectares or more will be in need
of prescribed activities. The construction of dam and hydroelectric power scheme by RP
ELVANA Group and Company Sdn. Bhd that are up to 400 hectares will be review in EIA.
Constructions of coastal resort or hotel which consist of more than 80 rooms are prescribed
activities under EIA. In addition, for housing construction which exceeds 50 hectares and off-
shore and on-shore pipelines constructions that are up to 50 kilometres is subjected to EIA

Lastly are the activities that are not defined by unit of measure in EIA prescribed
activities are forestry which logging and converting the forest into other land to be use and
clearing of mangrove swamps that are adjacent to national park. While for infrastructure the
construction of hospitals, expressway, national highway and new township by RP ELVANA
Group and Company Sdn. Bhd will be subjected to EIA as these activities requires monitoring to
ensure the construction activities does not exceed the requirement on negatively causing harm
towards the environment. Mining activities in searching of aluminium and copper for
construction must be review by EIA to avoid over exploitation and soil degradation.
