Sexual Contact, Alcohol and Drug Use


507.1 PURPOSE
To define the procedures pertaining to on-duty sexual activity, alcohol and drug use.

507.2 PROCEDURE
(a) Sexual Activity
1. KVET personnel are prohibited from engaging in any type of sexual contact while
on-duty.
(b) On-Duty Alcohol Use
1. Alcoholic beverages shall only be consumed on-duty with prior Divisional
Commander approval and only if the investigative situation necessitates
consumption.
2. An officer should not consume more than one alcoholic beverage in an hour.
3. The officer will ensure that alcoholic beverages consumed will not affect their
work performance.
4. If an officer believes that the alcoholic beverages consumed have impaired the
ability to perform the officer’s duties, the officer will immediately terminate the
investigation for that day, notify the command officer/team members, and shall
not operate a motor vehicle.
(c) On-Duty Drug Use
1. Under no circumstances will a KVET officer use, nor simulate the use of,
controlled substances. This policy will be adhered to regardless of the adverse
effect that it may have on an investigation.
2. KDPS Policy 320 “Standards of Conduct” will be strictly adhered to.
