HC ELDDFS PRESENTS

ACT 2018
Camp RE:ACT

CRAZY
L IT

ASIANS

3 - 5 Dec 2018
Camp RE:ACT! is an Arts Outreach programme by
the Hwa Chong Institution (College Section)
English Literature Drama Debate and Film Society
(ELDDFS). A student-led initiative, this 3-day
non-residential camp was started by the
executive committee of 2006 and has since been
reprised annually to much success.
This year’s camp re:ACT theme is “Crazy Lit Asians”.
The blockbuster success of the film Crazy Rich
Asians left an indelible mark on both Asians and
specifically Singaporeans, spreading our cultures
far and wide, casting it into the spotlight. Jumping
on board the hype train, we drew inspiration from
the glitz and glamour of the cultural giant and
infused it into this year’s Camp Re:Act. With
activities curated to allow your inner artist to
flourish, dazzling those around you like a peacock
spreading its feathers.

*Of course we are not bringing you on a plane ride :D

We are happy to have our field trip this year to
the Singapore Repertory Theatre!

Founded in 1993, Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT) aims to

provide a platform for Asian artists, like Kit Chan, both on and
off stage, and give everyone the opportunity to experience
Broadway, the West End and the richness of Singaporean
culture.
Besides its original musicals like Forbidden City: Portrait of an
Empress and children shows like The Cat in the Hat, SRT was
the first Singaporean theatre company on Broadway in 1998 as
Associate Producer of Golden Child, which earned three Tony
Award nominations.

DEBATE WORKSHOP
NO ACTION
TALK ONLY
The aim of this workshop is to expose participants to the basics of
debating and communication through lectures from distinguished
speakers in the field and through hands-on practice.

Participants will get to hone their confidence and sharpen their

stylistic flair through various activities and will also be required to
think on their feet. Participants can look forward to interesting games
and mock debates during the workshop.
DRAMA
LOCAL  WORKSHOP
SASS
An art form in Singapore thought only to be accessible
to the affluent, Local Sass seeks to expose participants
to the different aspects of theatre through a practical
learning approach and demonstrate its appeal to the
masses. Participants will try their hand at becoming a
theatre maestro by adapting different local plays and
showcasing their dramatic flair.
LIT WORKSHOP
CRAZY DEAD POETS
This workshop aims to facilitate students’ deeper exploration
of and enthusiasm for poetry as students are introduced to a
variety of forms and styles. Through a multitude of activities,
group sessions as well as individual writing, participants will
be able to actively use their imagination in the process of
honing the craft of engaging with their own personal, original
stories, whether it be in a written or spoken form.
FILM WORKSHOP
HOW TO SHOOT
WITHOUT A SUIT
What makes a film so captivating, so rich and so addicting
to watch? Often underappreciated, the little details ----
exaggerated angles, expressions, colour choices---- are
what bring so much energy and wonder into the movies we
have come to love. One does not need a suit or a crazy
budget to film a crazy good film. This workshop seeks to
open the eyes of participants to the various techniques
employed by filmmakers to achieve the best visualisations.
