Welcome to BHS Highlander Drama Club!

Brief Description: The purpose of Highlander Theatre is to provide students with an opportunity to
enhance their theatrical skills, socialize with students who share their common interests, and be
provided with unique performance opportunities. The Drama Club will run from September through
June.
Mission Statement: BHS Highlander Theatre serves as a unique, vital, and educational artistic
resource that sets the stage for Baldwin High School students to pursue excellence in theater arts. Our
mission is:
1. to nurture creativity
2. cultivate good showmanship and school spirit while teaching students how to overcome
challenges
3. foster the development of social skills
4. build confidence
5. foster an environment where students can flourish and grow through development of work
ethic, teamwork, and goal-setting
6. to expose our students to the theatre arts, aesthetic appreciation, and expression. Essential to
our mission is pursuing excellence in theatrical performance.
Special requirements to participate:
1. Must be a BHS student in good academic and behavioral standing in the school district. All BHS
students are welcome to participate and can join. Please check the new academic eligibility
policy!
2. Must show support to the 2016 fall play production through either performance, stage crew,
production teams, house volunteer, or attendance.
3. Attendance of no less than 75% of annually planned general membership meetings
OR
4. Must participate in at least 3 annually planned events
Potential Drama Club Upcoming Events for the 2016-2017 Year:

Trip to London, England (July of 2018)


o MANDATORY parent meeting on Monday, September 19th at 7:00pm in auditorium
Acting Workshop(s)
o Pantomime Workshop
o Monologue Workshop (Wednesday, September 14th at 2:30 in auditorium)
Fall Play Auditions: Monday, September 19th at 3:00pm
Script reading/analysis and play discussion in conjunction with the Lit Guild

Yoga: relaxing the body before performance


Student Improv Nights! (Pizza will be included, of course).
Weekend field trip(s) to see local professional performances
o To Kill a Mockingbird (November 6 @2:30)
o The Perks of Being a Wallflower (May 14 @2:30)
Fall play production
Homecoming Carnival
Theater Slam! Write, rehearse, and perform original sketches for a live audience within a 24
hour time frame.
