Always use the correct PPE for this task.
If you are not sure how to do this properly, ask your immediate supervisor.
You have the right to refuse to do any work if the situation will endanger your own or the
lives of other people.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR THIS WORK

1. DEFINITIONS
OPOP - Ore Production Open Pit
OPMO - Open Pit Mining Operation
MH&SA - Mine Health and Safety Act
ADT - Articulated Dump Truck
RDT - Ridged Dump Truck
FEL - Front End Loader
LV - Light Vehicle
MV - Medium Vehicle
TMM - Trackless Mining Machine
All Visitors, Maintenance staff and Mine service department personnel must be instructed on
dangers associated with this task.
If the Mine working on has a Code of Practice and any deviation is observed, the Site
Manager will discuss the deviation with the relevant Mine Authorities and obtain written
permission to deviate from the Mines’ Code of Practice.
It is the responsibility of the Site Manager and Mechanical Foreman to ensure that this
standard is adhered to without exception.

6. PROCEDURE
Daily informal inspections must be done to ensure the disposal is done correctly
All employees working in the area must be made aware of the disposal of sewage
All workers must be made aware of the whereabouts of the drains and pipes to avoid
accidental damage or driving over drains with heavy trucks or other vehicles
Should it be necessary the area where sewage pipes or drains are installed, must be
demarcated or the required signs or berms must avoid travelling of heavy vehicles
over pipes or drains
Sewage water must be controlled into an area, either into drain pipes as required by
the Municipalities or into French drains, as indicated by the mine
Sewage must not be able to enter any river, stream or drinking water
Should some kind of blockage occur, it must be reported to the Site Manager who in
turn will report it to the Mine Authorities
If made use of a sub contractor, arrangements must be made for the regular emptying
or suction of the sewage or toilets
No excuses must be accepted from the sub contractor for not able to remove sewage,
should it happen the facilities must be closed and not used until cleaned as per
contract
Sewage disposal must be done as per mine instruction or with permission from the
appointed Mine Engineer or Mine Authorities
7. QUALITY CONTROL
(QC activities needed for self-verification of the quality and consistency of the work. Describe
the preparation of appropriate QC procedures (self-checks, such as calibrations, recounting,
re-identification) that are required to ensure successful performance of this SOP)
