Project Brief

Project 2

Duration: 4 April 2020 – 18 April 2020

Medium: Conventional and Digital Sketch Approach

Idea/Image/Motif Development 1 (15 %)

Idea development process is much dependently on the specific focus of the subject being studied. It
involves image manipulation, abstraction, extraction, stylization and development of new motif, pattern,
ornament and compositions. The objective of idea development is to conceptualize the identity of
subject matter with supporting secondary elements. Project 2 requires students to develop idea and
concept portraying the identity and its related elements via image/motif development. The identity
should to be 65% projected with an additional 35% supporting secondary elements. The breakdown of
the development is as follows:

1. Browse and get at least 5 example of Idea/Image/Motif Development as your main

inspirations/references
2. Minimum 3 main motifs/images (with identity) with 15 development variances
3. Minimum 3 supporting secondary elements with 15 development variances

Marks will be given based on the appropriateness of integration between focal identity and related
secondary design elements. As usual, the development evidences should be uploaded to padlet for
evaluation purposes.

Design Compositions (30%)

Duration: 19 April 2020 – 18 May 2020

Medium: Conventional and Digital Composition Approach

At this stage, students are required to propose his/her design composition(s) accordingly to the desired
textile product(s). The composition is also much dependently to the specific focus of the subject being
studied. For an instance, a traditional fabric structure should be preserved as is. Students are allowed to
utilize a various repeat pattern such as drop patterns, bricks, chevron, OG, overall, scattered, mirror etc..
However, the usage of these patterns should be fully aligned with the subject matter characteristics.
Students are required to complete this project as follows instruction:
1. Browse and get at least 5 example of design compositions as your main inspirations/references
2. Minimum 3 main motifs/images (with identity) with 15 composition variances blended with
secondary elements.

Marks will be given based on the appropriateness of composition and integration between focal identity
and related secondary design elements. As usual, the development evidences should be uploaded to
padlet for evaluation purposes.

Project 3

Fabric Samples (15%)

Duration: 19 May 2020 – Week 14

Students need to provide fabric samples that suitable with his/her proposed textile design product(s).
This samples should come with the requirements as follows:

1. 6 different weightage of fabric accordingly to the suitability of the proposed products

2. Written report justifying type of fabrics used

The fabric samples should be compiled and submitted on the week 14 of the semester ends. Marks will
be given based on the suitability of the fabric used and its justification to the proposed products
