Purpose:

The purpose of this Excel Calculation Template is to perform & present the calculations for
Geotechnical Capacity of Typical Cast-in-Place "Long" (as opposed to "Short") Piles as per
International Practice.

Instructions:

i) The input has to be provided in Cells with BLUE text and Shaded with YELLOW such as: 20

ii) The range of maximum MAX() command should be updated whenever data row no. exceed 5000
in TABLE 1.

iii) For use in Actual Project, replace this sheet with roject Calculation Cover sheet and use Project
standard Header & Footer and actual site descritions and data.

Basis & Limitations:

i) This calculation sheet estimates the probabale pile capacities for the site geotechnical conditions
as available from actual Site Geotechnical Report. This needs to be supplemented by Pile Testing.

ii) The calculation methodology is primarily based on the BS 8004 Code and the book by Pile Design
& Construction Practice by M.J. Tomlinson

iii) The Vertical Pile Capacity calculation sheet is valid for Bored Cast-in-Place concrete piles only.

iv) The Lateral Capacity calculation sheets are valind for all concrete piles in Cohesionless soils and
normally consolidated calys with linearly increasing modulus of soil with depth.

iv) This sheet is not valid for Short Piles.

2.) By Reese & Matlock's Theory:

For free head
Zmax L/T 9.362

Deflection y = AyxHxT3/(EI) + AyxMtxT2/(EI) Equation 6.52, Pile

Design by Tomlinson
For Allowable safe capacity
y0 5 mm -- as above
Mt 0 kNm -- "e" = 0

Ay from above chart 2.40 Chart (a)

Therefore, Allowable Lateral H = y x EI / (Ay x T3)
Load = H 66036.55 N
H = 66.04 kN

Generated Max Moment = M = AmHT + BmMt Equation 6.52, Pile

For Mt = 0 Design by Tomlinson
Am = 0.79 Chart (b)
M = A m
HT +0 89.157 kNm

Allowable Lateral Load should be less than the Minimum value of H from the above two methods.

Hence, use Allowable Lateral Load Capacity of Pile = 65 kN
