WRITING AND VOCABULARIES

1. Read the letter below quickly. What is the invitation for?

To: Sofie Jackson Dear Sofie,

How are you? It seems ages since I last saw you-the last time we met I remember you were
very busy helping your friend get ready for her wedding.

I hope it all went well and the weather stayed fine for you. I’ve got a new job in the
marketing department, so it’s more money but more work unfortunately.

Actually, the reason I’m writing you this is to tell you about anther wedding. My brother
Andy and Amy (I’m sure you met her before) have finally set the date for their wedding on
20th August. We’ll send you a proper invitation in a few weeks but this is just to let you know
in advance.

Anyway, my parents want to celebrate the engagement so they’re having a special lunch on
Sunday 3rd May. We’re inviting relatives and close friends, so there’ll be about twenty
peoples there. We’d love to see you. It’s at Martin’s Restaurant – do you know? It’s on the
waterfront, so let’s hope the weather’s good.

I know it’s quite a long way for you to come, but Robby is driving up from Manchester-so
maybe you could arrange to come up together? If not, I can meet you at the station- just let
me know when your train gets in.

I’m going away for two weeks tomorrow, but you can phone my parents to tell them your
coming (their number is 0131 445 892) or send me an e-mail . I really hope you can come.

Love from Marianne

To: Irfan

Dear Irfan

Hallo How are you? I hope you are healthy, I’m writing you this letter because I want to
invite you and and your in-laws to my place. It has been a while we all gather together, so
I’ve been thinking about cooking some dinner or maybe a BBQ.

Let me know when you are available for this. I think that maybe on a weekend may be better.

I hope I’ll here from you soon.
