It was a hot Monday morning. Alimin was on his way home from school. As he was feeling
hungry, he took a shortcut through Pak Abu’s house. Upon reaching Pak Abu’s house, he saw a
huge mango tree. It was bearing (to produce flowers or fruit) a lot of ripe juicy mangoes. The
mangoes made Alimin’s mouth water (having a very good appearance or smell that makes
youwant to eat). He was tempted (to attract someone to have or do something) to pick the
mangoes.

Alimin put his knapsack (a small rucksack) down and looked left and right. There was
nobody around. Without much hesitation (the act of pausing before doing something), Alimin
started to climb up the tree. He picked all the big and juicy mangoes. He ate them to his heart’s
content (do something enjoyable). Then he saw more juicy mangoes at the far end of the branch.
He decided to pick them. He stepped on a weak branch and reached for the mangoes.

All of a sudden, the branch broke. Alimin fell to the ground. He groaned in pain and
screamed for help. Luckily a passer-by heard his scream. He quickly ran to the rescue. He
examined Alimin and told him that his right leg was broken. Taking pity on him, the man took
Alimin to the hospital. Alimin regretted what he had done.

Sazali, who is twelve years old, is an active boy. He likes to go outing with his friends. They
love nature. They often go for a picnic at the river nearby. Usually, they cycle to the river for a dip
(a quick swim) in the crystal clear water.

Last week during the first semester holidays, Sazali and his friends had a picnic by the river
in their village. The river was just a stone’s throw away (a short distance) from Mr. Tan’s orchard.
After cycling for half an hour, the boys finally arrived at their destination. Upon reaching there,
they quickly looked for a nice spot to put their things. They had brought along a lot of food and
drinks.

Without much delay, the boys changed their attires and jumped into the water for a swim.
They were on cloud nine, playing and swimming in the river. Suddenly, Sazali noticed something
floating in the water. It was coming towards them. He thought it was a crocodile. Feeling scared,
he screamed his lung out. Everyone panicked (feeling very worried or frightened) and ran out of
the water as quick as lightning. They ran for their lives. One of them, Meng Keong even climbed
up a tree. They waited anxiously for someone to come and save them.

As the object floated by, Sazali braved himself to take a closer look. He realised that it was
just a log, not a crocodile. He told all his friends about it. They felt relieved and burst out laughing
(to suddenly start laughing).

Last week on a fine Sunday morning, Izat and his family went to Rantau Abang beach for a
picnic. They set off their journey at nine o’clock in the morning and arrived there an hour later.
Upon arriving there, they could see a big crowd of people on this golden sandy beach. They could
also witness (to see something happen) many people swimming happily in the sea. The water
was indeed crystal clear. Everyone was in seventh heaven (extremely happy). They quickly looked
for a nice spot to put all their things. Izat and his siblings helped their parents to take out all food
and drinks from the car.

“Guys, shall we go for a swim,’ suggested Izat excitedly. Everyone nodded in agreement. In
no time, Izat’s family was in the water, enjoying themselves.

Suddenly, Izat heard a faint noise. At first, he paid no heed to it. But, soon it grew louder
and louder. He heard someone screaming for help. He looked around. To his surprise, he saw a
boy struggling in the water. He was bobbing (to move up and down quickly, especially on the
surface of water) up and down. Izat quickly told his father about it. Without much thinking, Izat’s
father swam towards the boy. He put his arm around the drowning boy’s neck and pulled him to
the shore. He swam with all his might. Finally he managed to save the boy. He felt very tired but
happy for he had saved a life.

Last weekend Salma’s parents were away on business. They had to attend an important meeting
in Pulau Langkawi. After spending two hours reading a story book, Salma felt bored and wanted
to do something more challenging. So, she invited her friends over to her house.

Salma and her friends played hide-and-seek in the garden. They were running all over the place,
looking for a suitable place to hide. Azman, one of Salma’s friends did not want himself to be
found easily. So, he decided to hide outside the house. He ran out without looking left or right.
Just then, their neighbour, Pak Cik Hassan who is a fishmonger, rode by on his motorcycle. When
he saw Azman appeared in front of his motorcycle, he swerved (to change direction, especially
suddenly) to the left to avoid hitting him. He lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a pond.

Pak Hassan fell off his motorcycle and landed in middle of the pond. He was wet all over. His
motorcycle was badly dented (to make a small hollow mark in the surface of something). His
weighing scale and many other things were thrown into the air. When the children saw this, they
screamed in fear. Mrs Lim, the neighbour rushed out to see what was happening. She scolded the
children. All the children apologised to Pak Hassan. Fortunately, he was not seriously injured. He
only had bruises on his hands and legs. However, his shirt was dirty and wet.

Aiman who is my schoolmate, is twelve years old. He lives with his beloved family of five in
Kampung Aman. His teachers and friends like him very much as he is not only friendly but also
helpful. To many villagers, Aiman has a heart of gold.

Last Saturday morning, Aiman and his classmates visited an old woman in the nearby village.
The old woman was very poor and lived alone in an old dilapidated (old and in poor condition)
wooden house. The children sympathised (to understand and care about someone’s problems)
her when they saw the condition of the house. They decided to help her clean the house.

The children divided themselves in two groups and Aiman was in the first group. Without
wasting much time, they started working. They repaired the broken walls and stairs. Later they
painted the walls. As for the girls who are in the second group, they helped to sweep the dirty
floor. They also cleaned and tidied the house compound. After three hours of hard work, the
children finally completed their tasks. The house really looked beautiful and clean.

The woman was as happy as a lark. Her face lit up with joy. She was very grateful and
thanked the children for their kindness. It was rare to see such kind hearted children.

At about five in the evening, the children decided to go home. They were feeling tired but
happy because they had done a good deed. It was a memorable moment for Aiman and his
classmates.

rushed to alert the security guard.

MODEL ESSAY 13
All went back. The last sound that Tom heard was a shrill blasting of a car horn. A pool of
crimson blood formed beneath him. Tom had been hit by an oncoming limousine when he fell
while running home in the rain after school.
It was actually stifling hot that fateful day. The sun’s golden rays shone on Tom. School has
ended in a mundane way and all the students trudged with heavy steps out of the school gate
while perspiring profusely. Tom sighed at the burning heat of the scorching sun and he moaned
while trotting along the pavement that led out of the school. Many students had gotten into their
parents’ cars but Tom was alone.
Suddenly, pitch-black clouds scudded frantically across the sky. Soon, flashes of lightning
formed in the ominous grey sky and the pounding of harsh wind swept past Tom. Tom shuddered
as the sound of thunder rumbled overhead. He realised that a storm was brewing.
As Tom broke into a run, turning into the long stretch of Watten Estate, rain started pelting
down in torrents. Tom shouted out in dismay as frenzied winds gust past him. He looked
desperately around him but no one was in sight to let him share an umbrella with. The road
ahead was clear and empty. Home was still a distance away. He suddenly wished he had heeded
his mother’s advice about carrying an umbrella in his school bag. Before long, he was soaked to
the skin.
Leaves rustled as they fell off the branches of trees. The wayside trees swayed till they
almost bent double. Soon, Tom’s last ounce of energy faded and he staggered sideways,
momentarily losing his balance. His feet lost grip and he skidded, falling sideways and tumbling
clumsily onto the road.
All of a sudden, a Mercedes Benz limousine appeared out of the gloom. Its menacing
shadow loomed over Tom. There was a blaring of a horn and the screeching of brakes. The
driver’s attempt to swerve to avoid hitting Tom was to no avail. Tom’s eyes widened in horror as
the headlights of the car grew brighter with each passing second. He was hit on his side and he
collapsed like a rag-roll, his arms and legs sprawled on the ground, lifeless.
When Tom woke up with a start, his eyes met those of his beloved parents’. They were
visibly relieved to see their beloved son regain consciousness. Although Tom felt excruciating pain
all over, his parents told him that he had emerged from the harrowing experience none the
worst. He had sustained minor injuries on his face, limbs and lost three of his teeth.
Tom then inquired about how he had ended up in a hospital. His father, who was sitting by
his bed side, put his hand on his forehead and recounted how the driver of the limousine had
rushed Tom to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.
When Tom finally remembered the traumatic ordeal he had encountered, he made up his
mind never to walk home when there was a storm. He would also never leave home without
carrying an umbrella in his school bag in the future.

It happened that Monday. Six-year-old Alan ruffled his pet terrier's head and skipped out of
his house in high spirits. Wolfie, the terrier, wagged his tail in delight as Alan tugged gently at his
leash and headed for the nearby neighbourhood park for an exciting game of "Catch". The frisky
canine twirled around, licking his master's face with its sloppy, pinkish tongue.
Soon, the twosome reached the familiar cross junction they used daily. On the road lay the
sweet and sticky remains of a dropped ice cream cone. Suddenly, Alan felt a tug on the flimsy
leash and was immediately dragged along by the energetic Wolfie. After a few minutes of
persistent tugging, the thin leash was torn apart and the frisky terrier charged haphazardly
towards the bustling road, oblivious to the oncoming traffic. He barked enthusiastically and leapt
onto the little puddle of strawberry ice cream, ignoring Alan's incessant cries and the constant
beeps from swerving cars. Suddenly, the ominous shadow of a bus appeared. It was speeding
towards the ignorant canine. The horrified driver shut his eyes tight and slammed on the
brakes ...
"No! Stop ..." It was too late. The rumbling SBS bus collided headlong into the terrier before
grinding to a sickening halt. The stench of burnt rubber lingered in the air. The poor dog collapsed
like a rag-doll onto the tarred road. Alan put his hands to his tear-stained face and wailed loudly.
Wolfie, his best friend in the world, was gone ...
The anxious bus driver sprinted down from the bus. Beads of perspiration were trickling
down his face as he placed his hands on Alan's shuddering shoulders. By this time, students from
the nearby school had gathered at the scene. Some gaped at the grisly sight of the dog's mangled
body while others dashed forward to comfort the inconsolable Alan. With bleary eyes, Alan
staggered towards the motionless limp body of Wolfie which lay in a pool of blood and ruffled its
silky fur. Passengers on the bus wept at the sight of the pitiful boy and one of them even
volunteered to walk Alan home. Alan silently nodded in agreement before picking up his beloved
dog and cradling it in his arms. He trailed behind the caring lady with his head bowed in anguish.
Since then, Alan never owned a dog again. He was overcome by guilt as he knew. He could
have saved Wolfie from its terrible fate that day if he had bought a better leash and had taken
more precautions. A moment's folly had caused him the most precious thing in his life. Alan
vowed to be careful in future. After all, it is always better to be safe than sorry.

"There's a shoplifter here!" Jane shouted at the top of her voice. The queer man in a coat
was already breaking into a dash, heading towards the door with quick strides. Lim's Grocery
Store had just been shoplifted.
The hustle and bustle of the well-known store owned by the Lim family was typical for a
Sunday afternoon. Groceries were snatched up as fast as lightning. Customers with armfuls of
grocery items were tapping their feet impatiently in the long queues, waiting for their turn to pay
for their purchases.
Jane, a regular customer of the popular grocery store, entered the store with a huge basket.
She had promised to do the weekly grocery shopping for her beloved mother. As she placed the
daily necessities in her basket, she beamed with satisfaction.
Suddenly, a lanky man roughly pushed his way through the store. Without saying a word, he
shoved Jane aside, positioning himself at the candies section. Jane observed his actions with a
look of disgust etched on her face. After watching him scrutinise the dazzling array of sweets and
chocolates, Jane continued with her shopping spree, trying not to pay attention to the weird man
with his sleuth-like cap and trench coat.
After purchasing all the groceries she needed, Jane passed by the candies section again. To
her surprise, she noticed that the same man was still loitering there. Feeling uncomfortable
about the situation, Jane took to observing the man with her sharp eyes. In order not to arouse
the suspicion of the man, Jane pretended to be looking for her favourite brand of chocolate while
taking constant glances at the man. As Jane watched him closely, she realised that his eyes were
darting around suspiciously in all directions, as if waiting for the coast to be clear and at the same
time fiddling with the candies on the shelf.
All of a sudden, faint rustling sounds of sweet wrappers were caught by Jane's sensitive ears
and she turned around instinctively. To her horror, she noticed the man surreptitiously stuffing a
packet of sweets into his coat pocket but this was not his first packet of sweets. In fact, his pocket
was already bulging with five packets of sweets! With a satisfied grin, he calmly prepared to walk
out of the store, "loot" and all ....
The shoplifter suddenly caught sight of Jane and the expression on his face changed
immediately. His face now had a look of plain anger as he realised his awful deed had been found
out. With an agitated roar, he burst out of the store with nimble steps. Fortunately, Jane's cries of
help had alerted two civic-minded men who also patronised the store. In no time, one of them
was off, hot on his heels in pursuit of the shoplifter while the other punched in the number of the
police hotline on his mobile phone. Meanwhile, the other man was fast closing the gap between
him and the crafty shoplifter.
The chase was still on. Suddenly, the air resounded with the familiar sound of the police
siren. The quick-thinking policemen surrounded him in a tight circle. The shoplifter knew he was
in hot soup. With a deep sigh, he raised his hands up into the as if all hope was lost. Within
minutes, he was hauled into a waiting police car and sent to the police station for interrogation.
The shopkeeper thanked Jane and the two men profusely. The policemen commended them
for helping to nab the shoplifter. From that day on wards, Jane resolved to always help the police
in any way she could.

It was business as usual at the bank and there was a big crowd. Businessmen and women in
perfectly-pressed suits strutted through the doors of the bank. Suddenly, a car screeched to a
halt, right smack in front of the bank. The smell of burnt rubber wafted through the air.Three men
slammed the doors of the car roughly behind them as they briskly walked into the crowded
bank.Totally oblivious to the inquisitive looks everyone shot towards them, they plunked
themselves down on the chairs and started to light a cigarette each, puffing away furiously. Just
before the austere security guard could approach them to tell them smoking was prohibited in
the bank, they threw aside their cigarettes, pulled on ski masks and stood up in one swift move.
The lanky robber hollered, "This is a robbery! Hand over all your money or we'll shoot!"
2 In no time, all the people had their trembling arms raised in the air except an old
lady who cowered in fear. The security guard attempted to activate the burglar alarm but
was promptly spotted by an eagle-eyed robber. In a flash, the latter whipped out his machine gun
and shot the unfortunate law enforcer straight in the stomach. The courageous hero collapsed on
the marble floor in a pool of crimson blood. Not wanting to risk their own lives, the bank staff
apprehensively handed the ruthless robbers three huge bags of fifty-dollar notes with their cold
and clammy hands. Snatching the heavy bags, the trio of robbers gleefully made off with their
loot.
3 Meanwhile, unknown to the delinquents, a quick-witted teenager who was one of
the bank customers, stealthily slipped out of the entrance of the bank when the robbers
were distracted by two surly young men. Once outside, he whipped out his mobile phone and
dialled the police hotline swiftly.
4 After what seemed like eternity, police sirens resonated in the surroundings. Upon
hearing the familiar ear-piercing sound of the siren, the crafty robbers hopped into their
getaway car, started the engine with a roar and a chaotic chase between good and evil began.
