workings. High grade quartz sulphide veins, similar to the vein mined to a depth of 210m from the Main
Reef shaft, were intersected up to 700m to the east. These quartz veins are associated with carbonate
alteration in shear zones within mafic volcanics and granite and higher grade shoots have average
grades ranging from 11-23g/t Au. Intersections include 3m at 55.9g/t Au in MWMR 40; 4m at 30.50g/t
Au in MWMP 4 and 14m at 18.32g/t Au in MWMR 5. A 19m intersection at 2.26g/t Au from 16-35m in
MWMR 28 indicates potential for open cut mineralisation.
Tanzania Gold Ltd. (TGL) commenced exploration in September 1996 in its 145 km 2 Mawe Meru licence
area including the old gold mines Main Reef (operational until 1952 producing 80,000 t at an average
grade of 25-30 g/t Au).
A drilling programme, totaling 13,447m of RC and 1,976m of RAB drilling focused on zones of known
mineralisation at Busolwa, Main Reef and Illilika
At the Main Reef prospect, results have been less encouraging and are summarised below. Results have
still not yet been received for holes MWMR025 to 035.

Mineralisation at Main Reef appears to be associated with strongly foliated, quartz veined basalts,
generally at or close to the contact with granite/porphyries. The basalts are occasionally silicified and
usually contain 1-3% disseminated pyrite where mineralised. The intersection in MWMR040 is
associated with semi-massive pyrite( up to 50% pyrite). The intersections in MWMR036 on 10670E and
MWMR040 on 10800E correlate well with previous high grade intersections, and indicate a zone dipping
60-80 towards the south.
These mineralised zones, although of high grade, appear to be of very limited width (true width of 1-
3m), and it is difficult to envisage these zones constituting an economically viable open-pittable
resource.
