Window write up

Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair

PPE:
For PPE I wore steel toe capped boots for protection of any heavy objects falling and breaking my
toes. Also I wore gloves to prevent any harmful substances seeping into my skin. I also wore overalls
suitable for this work.

Customer concern:
 Window went down but not up.
Next steps:
 Ask the customer the last time the vehicle had been serviced.
 Ask when the problem first started to occur.
 Check the switch for window does what the customer says it does.
Testing:
 Gently pull out the tweeter speaker panel but leaving a gap to be able to disconnect the
tweeter speaker connector.
 Disconnect the tweeter speaker connector.
 Remove the tweeter speaker panel completely
 Gently pull back the top of the door panel enough to gain access to the switch.
 Pop the switch out of the door panel by pushing it from behind.
 Using a power probe, probe the inside of the connector of the switch by touching the probe
to the switches live but by also placing the earth cabled the power probe to earth. (I didn’t
get a live feed from the switch)
 If there isn’t a live feed from the switch, using a t25 socket and 1/4 inch ratchet remove
screws from the door panel.
 Pull off the door panel carefully but not completely.
 Disconnect the side mirror connector connected from the door panel.
 Disconnect the window wiring from the door panel.
 Carefully remove entire door panel to gain access to wiring and motor for the window.
 Locate the motor for the window.
 Connect the power probes earth cable to earth and get a live feed from the motor. I got a
live feed from the motor)

My diagnosis for the customers problem is that there is no live feed coming from the switch that
turns the window down. I then ordered a new switch for the window. Tested the switch the same
way the broken switch was tested all was good.
Refitting:
 Hold up the door panel to the door and reconnect the connection wires to the window
switch.
 Reconnect the side mirror connector.
 Place the door panel completely to the door.
 Using a t25 socket and ¼ inch ratchet screw the door panel bolt back in.
 Connect the tweeter speaker connector back onto the tweeter speaker panel.
 Connect the tweeter speaker panel back on to the door panel.

Once everything is back together check that the problem no long happens. (It no longer happened).
If the problem is gone and all is well ring up the customer to check for themselves that everything is
okay and that they have no problem so they can take their vehicle home.
