Complete the ANOVA table and test the significance of variation between Blocks and
Treatments at 5% and 1% level of significance. [Ans: S. S. (Blocks) = 54.1250, M. S. S.
(Blocks) = 27.06, F(Blocks) = 5.6; significant & M. S. S. (Treatments) = 29.24,
F(Treatments) = 6.2; significant, S. S. (Residual) = 28.2083, D. F. (Residual) = 6, M. S.
S. (Residual) = 4.70]
5. Three variables of crops ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ are tested in a randomized block design with
four replications. The yields are depicted in the table. Test at 0.05 level of significance
whether there is difference between replications. Test also whether the varieties differ
significantly.

Set up a ANOVA for the analysis of variance and work out the F-ratio in respect of the
above. Are F-ratio significantly? (Use F (tab 0.05 for (2, 6) d. f. = 5.14 and F (tab 0.05
for (3, 6) d. f. = 4.76). [ans: (i) no difference (ii) no difference]
7. Set up ANOVA table for the following per hectare yield for three varieties of wheat each
grown on four plots:

Work out F-ratio between plots and between varieties. [Ans: between plots F = 6,
between varieties F = 4]
8. Four experiments determine the moisture content of samples of a powder, each men
taking a random sample from each of the six consignments. These assessments are given
in the table. Perform an ANOVA on these data and discuss whether there is significant
difference between consignments or between observers.

[Ans: FA = 5.03 > F(critical (3, 15) , α = 0.05) = 3.29, it is significant, then there is
significant difference between the observer. FB = 2.23 < FB (critical (5, 15), α = 0.05) =
2.90, it is not significant, then all the consignments may be regarded as homogeneous.]
