Obviously, positive emotion facilitates learning and memory. This could be explained due to the involvement of attention and motivation.

Attention helps a person focus on the material which is more likely to be stored in the memory. Motivation activates the curiosity which

makes the person prepare oneself to remember the information.

The story of Neg, however, shows that negative emotion can also facilitate learning. The stress caused by her classmates pushes her to

have a focused attention and apply additional cognitive work. This stress, which is a negative emotion, makes her perform well.

There is a study that specifies how a negative emotional state, like stress, affects the mental processes. A mild to acute stress can have a

positive impact on learning and memory, but excessive and chronic stress, on the other hand, impairs the learning and the memory

performance.

Why is there a need to attend to their emotion if the learners are both doing good regardless if they feel positive or negative emotions?

PART 2: EMOTION AND BEHAVIOR

Pos and Neg were both chosen to compete against other schools within their division. They both did their best to win, but still, they fail to be

part of the top performers. When they went back to school, some of their classmates were calling them “losers.”

Pos and Neg both share the same situation but responded differently. This suggests how handling one’s emotion greatly impacts their

behavior. If a person acts quickly based on how they feel without taking time to think, it may lead to irrational actions.

Though further studies are still needed to support the effect of emotion in learning, it is already undeniable that handling emotion is a life

skill important to be developed by each individual. Emotion, as a part of the totality of humans, serves as a triggering button that can make

people either build or damage their reputation.
