The E6 security system.

1. Functions and operating procedures of the E6 UNIVERSAL security system

4
The E6 can be operated in 6 different modes; each mode activates different zones and reacts differently
when the system is activated by a sensor. Zones are the areas that need protection. Zones 1-4 will always
be active except when the system is operated in the OFF mode. Zones 5 and 6 are intended for areas e.g.
where the occupant wishes to move about at night. The monitor zone normally monitors an outdoor area
where the sensors will always be active. The 24hr zone is always active and will trigger the alarm when
tampered with. The table gives a setup example:

ZONE AREA
1 Garage/outside doors
2 Living Room/Lounge
3 Study
4 Kitchen, Back door
5 Spare bedrooms and corridor
6 Main bedroom/en suite
Monitor Garden / Entrance Doors
24hr Safe/TV/Anti-tamper

1.1. Modes of operation

The following 6 modes are used by the E6 UNIVERSAL:

• Away mode,
• Sleep mode,
• OFF mode,
• Silent panic mode,
• Panic mode,
• Reset mode.

All modes, except panic- and silent panic mode, can only be activated when the system is in OFF mode. A
summary of the SMS command codes are given in table 3.

1.1.1. Away mode: Activated when leaving the premises.

• When away mode is activated the E6 UNIVERSAL will respond with 1 beep on the internal siren, the
away LED will light up and a “security system armed” SMS will be sent.
• The messages are fully programmable, but the default message is “Alarm Armed (No Entry)” or
“Alarm Armed (Entry Detected)”. In the SMS the device that armed the unit as well as the address
where the unit is located, will also be displayed.
• If the system was activated by a cellular phone, the specific phone’s number will be displayed.
• If “By Key ring “ is displayed, then the E6 UNIVERSAL was armed by a remote control.
• If By “System Timer” is displayed, then the alarm was activated by a timer.
• If movement was detected by the sensors while the system was in OFF mode, the “Entry Detected”
message will be sent, otherwise the “No Entry” message will be sent.
• In away mode all zones are active and any detection will result in the siren sounding for 3 minutes
unless another detector is activated, then the siren will continue for 3 minutes after the last detection.

5
An alarm SMS will also be sent. Example of such an SMS is “Alarm Garage at Eagle Wireless 142
Botha ave Lyttelton”.
• The siren will continue sounding and an ALARM SMS will be sent each time there is an activation of a
sensor to indicate that various sensors in the premises are been activated and that the alarm is not
from only 1 sensor.
• Gas will also be triggered if connected and the “gas enabled” option was selected (“$XXXXG1” – Gas
enabled; “$XXXXG0” – Gas disabled, see section 1.2.9).
• After switch off the relevant zone LED/’S will remain on to indicate which zone was activated. This
indication serves as an additional memory of activation.

Activating Away mode:

• Away mode can be activated by a key ring remote, a base station, a cellular phone or a timer.
• To activate the system by remote, the blue button must be pressed once.
• To activate the system by cellular phone or base station, “$XXXXA” must be sent to the E6’s
control panel via sms. In this message the “XXXX” is a private, four digit, alphanumeric pin
code that can only be changed by the programmer/user.
• The timer will activate the alarm at a pre-programmed time, if enabled.
• The E6 will respond with one beep on the internal siren and the necessary SMS will be sent.

Deactivating Away mode:

• Away mode can be deactivated by a key ring remote, a base station, a cellular phone or a
timer.
• To deactivate the system by remote, the yellow button must be pressed once (See OFF
mode).
• To deactivate the system by cellular phone or base station, “$XXXXO” (See OFF mode) must
be sent to the E6’s control panel via sms. In this message the “XXXX” is a private, four digit,
alphanumeric pin code that can only be changed by the programmer/user.
• The timer can deactivate the alarm at a pre-programmed time, if enabled.
• The system will respond as described in the OFF mode section. Note: 2 beeps on the internal
siren signal that it is safe to enter the premises, while 4 beeps signal that sensors were
activated and it may not be safe to enter the premises. (Also see OFF mode).

1.1.2. Sleep mode: Activated when retiring for the night.

• When Sleep mode is activated the E6 UNIVERSAL will respond with 1 beep on the internal buzzer
and if this mode was selected by SMS then a return “Security System Sleep mode” SMS will be sent.
In the SMS the device that armed the unit as well as the address where the unit is located, will also
be displayed.
• No SMS will be sent if Sleep mode was activated with the remote.
• In Sleep mode only zones 1,2,3,4, Monitor and 24 Hour are active. Any detection on zones 5 and 6
will be ignored.
• Any detection on the active zones will cause the buzzer inside the E6 UNIVERSAL to beep for 1
minute and should the alarm not be switched off within this time, the siren will start to sound and the
ALARM SMS messages will be sent. At this time the alarm also switches to away mode and the
relevant SMS will be sent.

6
• Any further activation will cause the siren to sound and an ALARM SMS to be sent. The siren will
sound for 3 minutes unless another activation is detected.
• After switch off, the relevant Zone LED or LED’s will remain on to indicate which zone or zones were
activated while the E6 UNIVERSAL was in Sleep Mode. This indication serves as an additional
memory of activation while the E6 UNIVERSAL was armed.

Activating Sleep mode:

• Sleep mode can be activated by a key ring remote, a base station or a cellular phone.
• To activate Sleep mode by remote, the Yellow and Blue button must be pressed
simultaneously.
• To activate Sleep mode by cellular phone or base station, “$XXXXS” must be sent to the E6’s
control panel via sms. In this message the “XXXX” is a private, four digit alphanumeric pin
code that can only be changed by the programmer/user.
• The system will respond as described above if activation was successful.

Deactivating Sleep mode:

• Sleep mode can be deactivated by a key ring remote, a base station or a cellular phone.
• To deactivate Sleep mode by remote, the yellow button must be pressed (See OFF mode).
• To deactivate Sleep mode by cellular phone or base station, “$XXXXO” (See OFF mode) must
be sent to the E6’s control panel via sms. In this message the “XXXX” is a private four digit
alphanumeric pin code that can only be changed by the programmer/user.
• The system will respond as described in the OFF mode section.

1.1.3. OFF mode: Activated when at home and going about everyday activities.
• In OFF mode no zone is active except the 24 hour zone and the monitor zone (see 24 hour- and
monitor zone).
• Selecting OFF mode will result in different responses depending on the mode the system was in
before activating OFF mode.
• If the E6 UNIVERSAL was in Away Mode, the E6 UNIVERSAL will respond by sounding twice on the
internal siren, only if the system was not activated by a sensor while in Away mode, and a system Off
(“Disarmed“) SMS message will be sent.
• If the E6 UNIVERSAL was activated by a sensor while in Away mode, the system will respond by
sounding four times on the internal siren and a system Off (“Disarmed“) SMS message will be sent.
This is an additional warning function to let the occupant know that the premises were entered.
• If the E6 UNIVERSAL was in the panic mode with the siren sounding the siren will stop when OFF
mode is activated.
• The messages are fully programmable, but the default message is “System OFF Mode”. In the SMS
the device that disarmed the unit as well as the address where the unit is located, will also be
displayed.
• If the system was deactivated by a cellular phone, the specific phone’s number will be displayed.
• If “By Key ring“ is displayed, then the E6 UNIVERSAL was disarmed by a remote control.

Activating OFF mode:

• Press the yellow button on the remote control once or send “$XXXXO” to the control panel.

7
• The response given by the system is described above.

Deactivating OFF mode:

• Off mode is deactivated by switching to any other mode (see the other paragraphs for more
detail).

1.1.4. Silent panic mode: Activated when in immediate danger.

• When the E6 UNIVERSAL receives a Silent Panic signal the gas will be triggered (if enabled) and a
Silent Panic SMS will be sent.
• If the E6 UNIVERSAL receives multiple Silent panic signals it will re send the Silent Panic SMS.
• If Silent Panic was activated by a cell phone then the cell phone’s number will be in the message e.g.
“ By +27832311234 “
• If a remote was used “By Key ring “ will be in the message.
• Example: “Silent Panic Mode activated By Key ring at Eagle Wireless 142 Botha ave Lyttelton”.

Activating Silent Panic mode:

• Silent panic mode can be selected by pressing the Red button on the remote control once or
by pressing the panic button on a door-guard.
• Silent Panic can be activated via SMS by sending the E6 UNIVERSAL the following message:
“$XXXXH”.

1.1.5. Panic mode: Activated when in immediate danger.

• When the E6 UNIVERSAL receives a panic signal the siren will start sounding for 3 minutes, the gas
will be triggered (if enabled) and a Panic SMS will be sent.
• Each time the E6 UNIVERSAL receives a panic signal it will reset the siren timer and resend the
Panic SMS.
• The siren can be stopped before the 3 minutes is up by pressing the yellow button on the remote
control or by sending the following message to the E6 UNIVERSAL: “$XXXXO”.
• The default panic message is “Panic”
• If panic was activated by a cell phone then the cell phones number will be in the message e.g. “ By
+27832311234 “
• If a remote was used the “ By Key ring “ will be in the message.

Activating Panic mode:

• Press the red and yellow button on the remote control simultaneously.
• Panic mode is activated via SMS by sending the E6 UNIVERSAL the following message:
“$XXXXP” Where XXXX is a four digit alphanumeric pin code.

Deactivating Panic mode:

• Panic mode can be deactivated by pressing the yellow button on the remote control or by
sending the following message to the E6 UNIVERSAL: “$XXXXO”.

1.1.6. Reset mode:

• Two functions are performed:

8
o The first function is to reset the control panel, Memory Lights.
o The second function is to disable the 24 hour zone for 60 seconds (i.e. for maintenance).
• Reset mode can only be activated when the system is in OFF mode.
• No SMS will be sent, no matter what device reset the control panel.

Activating Reset mode:

• Reset mode is activated by pressing all three buttons on the remote control simultaneously or
by sending “$XXXXr” to the control panel.
• The control panel's internal buzzer will beep 6 times.

Deactivating Reset mode:

• After the 60 seconds expired, the 24 hour zone will arm automatically.

NOTE: All the zones can have different messages (Zone Identification); however they are limited to 32
characters each and followed by a 96-character address message. Away Mode can be set to automatically
switch on and off at a certain time of day every day without consideration of weekends and holidays. Only
the control room programming software can enable this setting.
The memory LED’s will reset if the E6 UNIVERSAL is again switched to away or Sleep modes or by the
reset signal from the remote control or cell phone. (See Reset Mode).

1.2. Other functions and modes

1.2.1. Monitor mode: Normally connected to outdoor or door sensors which are always active. Only 1
monitor zone is programmable. The monitor zone is always active and will respond differently in each mode,
if triggered:
OFF Mode
When the system is in the OFF mode, any activation from a sensor set to the monitor mode will cause
the control panel buzzer to “beep” 4 times as a warning that a door has been opened or a person has
walked into a monitor zone. In addition the monitor light will stay on for 60 seconds. The use of this
mode is recommended to indicate unlawful entry into the garden or opening of a door. No SMS will be
sent.

Away Mode
When the system is in Away mode, any activation from a sensor set to the monitor zone will cause
the outdoor siren to sound 4 times and “Intruder in Monitor Zone” SMS to be sent. After the third
activation, all further sounding will divert to the internal siren (neighbor friendly). The monitor light will
remain on after the first activation and Stay on. With every new activation another SMS will be sent.
The following is an example of such an SMS: “Intruder In Monitor Zone at Eagle Wireless 142 Botha
ave Lyttelton”.
The gas will not be triggered even when enabled.

Sleep Mode

9
Any detection in the monitor zone will cause the buzzer inside the E6 UNIVERSAL to beep for 1
minute and should the alarm not be switched off within this time the siren will then start to sound and
the ALARM SMS messages will be sent. At this time the alarm also switches to away mode and the
relevant SMS will be sent.

1.2.2. 24 Hour Anti Tamper Zone:

The 24-hour zone is always active, even if the alarm is in OFF mode. This zone is used to protect a valuable
piece of equipment (Computers, Hi Fi’s, etc). All PIR’s (Passive Infra-red sensors) are equipped with a
tamper switch. When the 24 hr Zone sensor is activated, the siren will sound for 3 minutes and a 24 Hour
Zone SMS message will be sent. This zone can be disabled for 1 minute by the Reset mode i.e. pressing all
three buttons on the remote together or SMS $XXXXr. (See Reset Mode.)

1.2.4. Auto Arm / Disarm Time:

The E6 can be programmed to switch to AWAY Mode at a specific time of day every day. This time is
programmed into the E6 and does not take into consideration weekends or holidays. This is very useful for
Commercial applications where the E6 will arm at 18:00 every night.

When the E6 Armes, it will respond with 1 beep on the internal siren, the away LED will light up and a
security system armed SMS will be sent. Included in this message will be whether the Panel detected any
signals from detectors connected to the system or not, while in OFF mode. The messages are fully
programmable but could say “Alarm Armed (No Entry)” or “Alarm Armed (Entry Detected)”. In the SMS By
“System Timer” is displayed when the E6 is armed by this timer.

1.2.5. Supervision function:

All sensors are supervised by the E6 UNIVERSAL and should a sensor fail to report to the E6 UNIVERSAL
a supervision failure SMS will be sent and the zone LED on which the sensor failed will start to flash once
per second and the internal buzzer will beep once. This could happen if a sensor wasn’t activated for 24
hours.
• For a PIR sensor this will happen if the room, where the sensor is installed, was not entered by
anyone for 24 hours while the panel is in the off mode.
• For a Universal transmitter (Door-guard) this will happen if the door, on which the sensor is
installed, was not opened for 24 hours while the panel is in the off mode.
If this is not the problem, the sensor is defective and must be checked.
The supervision failure Beeping can be reset by activating Reset mode or by triggering the relevant zone
(See Reset mode above).
In Addition to the above the E6 UNIVERSAL when switched to Away Mode will send an SMS containing the
following:
“Alarm Armed (Entry detected)” or “Alarm Armed (No Entry)”.
This is an additional means of determining that some or all the sensors are detecting movement and
communicating with the E6 UNIVERSAL.

1.2.6. “Power Supply Battery low” warning function:

A Battery low SMS message will be sent every time the power supply battery voltage drops below a 10.7V.
When the battery is charged after the Battery low SMS was sent, a Battery OK SMS will be sent only when
the battery voltage stays above 11V for 60 minutes.
On power up, a Battery OK message will be sent if the battery voltage is above the predetermined value.

10
1.2.7. “Sensor Low Battery” warning function:
Although the batteries in the sensors can last up to 6 years for low power sensors and 18 months for Hi
power sensors the E6 UNIVERSAL will detect if a sensor has a battery that has only limited life left and will
start to flash the relevant zone LED once per second and beep the buzzer twice. The sensor itself will
indicate a low battery by flashing its LED when activated.
A Sensor Low battery SMS will also be sent.

Please note LOW Battery and Supervision Failure are very incessant sounds and should be attended to
immediately.

1.2.8. E6 Seismic detector for Panel Tamper:

The E6 UNIVERSAL also has a built in Seismic detector to detect any tampering with the control panel. This
detector can be configured for vibration intensity and duration by means of SMS commands.
The Seismic detector will always be on and will always only send an SMS. The siren will never be activated.

The Seismic detector can be disabled with a special command not to be released to any person outside of
the CellSecure Control Centre.

1.2.9. GAS discharge activation option:

The GAS discharge will be triggered every time the alarm is activated by a sensor or by means of a remote
control or cellular phone.
The activation of GAS is counted and timed and a low GAS warning will be sent when the GAS canister
needs to be replaced.
GAS will be triggered Depending if the GAS is enabled or not. This is done with the following messages:
“$XXXXG1” = GAS enabled, “$XXXXG0” = GAS disabled
GAS can be manually triggered by using $XXXXG9 at any time.

When the gas is triggered, the E6 will deliver a 4 sec spray, which will fill a room of 200 square meters
practically instantaneously. A total of 8 bursts of this length can be delivered per canister.
After the doors and windows have been opened it will take about two and a half hours for the gas to
dissipate out of the house.

Warning: The gas is hazardous to any living creature. Don’t enable the gas discharge option if pets
are left in the house while occupants are away from the premises.

1.2.10. 24-Hour Test Signal:

The E6 UNIVERSAL will send a 24 hour test SMS at a specified time each day to indicate that the system is
still in operation.

1.2.11. Listen In Mode:

By phoning the E6 UNIVERSAL and waiting for 4 rings’s the E6 UNIVERSAL will answer the call and any
noise or voice can be listened into via a microphone in the E6 UNIVERSAL. Note that only voice and noise
within a close proximity will be heard.

1.2.12. Warning and indication signals:

11
1.2.12.1. Power LED
This LED will come on when Mains power is applied to the PSU unit.

1.2.12.2. Sleep LED

This LED will switch on when the E6 is set to Sleep Mode and switch off when the E6 is set to Off Mode.

1.2.12.3. Away Mode LED

If the E6 is switched to Away Mode the Away LED will switch on and stay on even if a zone is activated.
When the E6 is switched off from Away Mode the away LED will switch off.

1.2.12.4. Zone LED's

These LED’s will mimic the detection of signals from sensors in the Off mode E.g. Zone 1 LED will switch on
when the E6 receives a signal from a sensor set to Zone 1.

After any activation in Away or Sleep mode the relevant zone LED will stay on as a memory function as to
which zone or zones were activated.
Any Supervision Failures or Sensor Low battery signals will be indicated on the relevant zone LED in the Off
Mode in the following format.

The relevant zone LED will flash once per second and the buzzer will beep either once for supervision
failure or twice for sensor low battery.

1.2.12.5. 24 Hour Zone LED

If a 24 Hour anti tamper signal is received the 24HR LED will switch on. This will occur in any mode.

1.2.13. Additional Inputs:

12
The E6 Universal can monitor 4 additional wired- or wireless inputs. For wired inputs, the devices to be
monitored are wired directly to the E6 UNIVERSAL’s control panel. This allows the user to connect, among
other devices, wired sensors to the control panel.
Alternatively 4 additional Wireless devices can be programmed into the E6. An additional Wireless Decoder
Board is connected to the E6 and can be programmed to recognize 4 wireless devices. The board must be
purchased separately.
The inputs can be programmed to operate in various ways.
a. To switch on and off with the E6 Control panel and send an SMS only.
b. To switch on and off with the panel and send an SMS and activate the siren.
c. To be on al the time and send only an SMS.
d. To be on all the time and send an SMS and activate the siren.
e. To be activated and deactivated by an SMS.

1.2.14. Additional Outputs:

Three additional electrical devices can be connected to and controlled by the E6 UNIVERSAL. This enables
the user to switch these devices on and off by simply sending an SMS (see table 3 for SMS commands).
The additional outputs are connected to a Relay board, which is then connected to the E6. This board is
purchased separately. The status (on or off) of the devices can be requested by sending “$XXXXR” to the
control panel via SMS.

1.2.15. Network signal strength

Upon enquiry by a cellular phone, the system can report on the signal strength of the network tower (Send
$XXXXT, where XXXX is the 4 digit alphanumeric pin code). The E6 will send a number between 0 and 30
to the inquiring cell phone. 0 means no signal, while 30 will imply a perfect signal. Any signal above 7 is
acceptable.

13

2.2. Types of Sensors
Four types of sensors can be connected to the E12.
1. Outdoor Passive Infrared Beam Sensors (High power),
2. Indoor Passive Infrared Sensors (High power),
3. Mini Passive Infrared Medium power,
3. Universal Transmitters for doors Gates,
4. Seismic Transmitter,
5. Dual Tilt Sensor.

2.2.1. Outdoor Passive Infrared Beam Sensor (High Power).

The Wireless Outdoor Infrared Sensors have been specially designed by CellSecure to offer maximum
performance with the minimum of false alarms in the harsh outdoor environment. The Sensor detects the
movement of heat in the infrared spectrum of light. In other words a source of heat such as a human moving
past the Sensor field of view (beam) will cause the Sensor to detect and a signal will be sent to the Control
panel. The maximum distance that the Sensor will detect is safely 20 meters and at 20 meters the beam is
approximately 3 meters wide, however in certain circumstances this could be more.

Figure 3.
Outdoor passive infrared beam sensor and its detection regions.

15
2.2.2. Indoor Passive Infrared Wide Angle Sensors (High Power).
The Sensor detects the movement of heat in the infrared spectrum of light. In other words a source of heat
such as a human moving past the Sensor field of view will cause the Sensor to detect and a signal will be
sent to the Control Panel Control panel. The Sensor will detect movement up to 8-12 meters Away from the
device and up to 100 degrees wide.

Figure 4.
Indoor Passive Infrared Wide Angle Sensor and its detection regions.

2.2.3. Mini Passive Infrared Medium power

Figure 5.
Mini Passive Infrared Medium power sensor (same detection region as Indoor Passive Infrared Wide
Angle Sensors).

16
2.2.4. Universal Transmitter (Door Guard).
The Door guard, DG, is actually a universal transmitter with integral panic button and connections for a
magnetic contact switch or similar device. The low power DG will send a signal to the control panel when the
magnet moves away from the magnetic switch, for example, when a door or window is opened (N/C
connector). The high power DG will send a signal when the magnet moves away or towards the magnetic
switch, for example, when a door is opened or closed (N/C and N/O connector).

Figure 6.
Low power (left) and high power (right) Universal transmitter or Door-Guard.

2.2.5. Seismic Transmitter.

The seismic transmitter can be used to protect computer equipment and other movable assets. It will send a
signal to the E12 every time it detects any vibration or movement. Every transmitter has a location and
Identity, enabling the E12 to recognize where tampering is taking place and communicate this information to
the user.

Figure 7.
Seismic Transmitter.

17
2.3. Battery Charger, Battery (Power supply unit (PSU)) and transformer
This battery will enable the E6 Universal to operate without mains power for approximately 7 days. The
charger will charge the battery when connected to mains power. The battery will be fully charged within 24
hrs. The transformer connects the charger to mains power. The PSU also sends a Mains on/Off signal when
the transformer is connected to - or disconnected from the PSU.
