New design puts Bengaluru Tin Factory metro station work

on hold

Bengaluru: The construction of a metro station near Tin Factory on Old Madras Road has
been temporarily suspended. Reason: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation has gone
back to the drawing board to redesign some aspects to allow for future expansion.

BMRCL now plans to build a separate double-decker (metro-cumroad) corridor between

KR Puram and Tin Factory, which will ultimately connect to the Kempegowda International
Airport.

“The work has been stopped,” confirmed BMRCL MD Ajay Seth. “We are planning to build
a double-decker corridor near Tin Factory. Since it’s a busy area and there is very little
space, we are looking at ways to provide a comprehensive engineering solution. The

metro corridor (15-km) — is proposed mostly on the Outer Ring road (Central Silk Board- Big Change:
KR Puram) and also connects the Kempegowda International Airport. The end of Five-Year Plans: All you need to know

“We will resume the construction of the Tin Factory station once the new design is finalised. Work on the remaining portion of the
Whitefield line is going on as usual,” the officer said.

DOUBLE-DECKER FLYOVER
The new double-decker project, which passes through at the Tin Factory junction, will accommodate both an elevated metro line (KR
Puram-Tin Factory stretch) and an elevated road corridor that will provide signal-free and seamless travel on the Outer Ring Road,
doing away the need to use the busy OId Madras Road at Tin Factory.

While KR Puram has been proposed as an interchange station for the two upcoming metro lines (Outer Ring Road-Airport and
Baiyappanahalli-Whitefield) due to the availability of land, there is no clarity whether a similar plan is being designed for the Tin Factory
station. In mid-2017, ITD Cementation India bagged the contract to build the 15-km Baiyappanahalli-Whitefield stretch.

The contractor began work on the stretch about a year ago. The project — hit by delay in land acquisition and slow construction — is
expected to be ready in 2022.

INTERCHANGE STATION?
There is no clarity whether an interchange station is being designed for Tin Factory.
