 DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF A MOBILE APPLICATION FOR
STUDENT  PORTAL (USING YABATECH PORTAL AS A CASE STUDY)

SUMMARY:
T h i s p r o j e c t a i m s a t cr e a t i n g a p or t a l f or a c o l l e g e . T h i s
a l l o w s registered users of the system to join a course available on the site
and access the
materials published for the courses. Students can for themselves register their Dep
artmental coursesavailable for the semester with just their user IDs and
password. Also, there is a platform for communication and interaction
between the administration and the students of the institution.This project
work would be designed to suit mobile devices only and would be developed
using java and java script, tml and the database would also be designed with !

PROBLEM STATEMENT:
The comple#ity in the design and implementation of the system
isa   m a j o r   c h a l l e n g e .   A l s o ,   t h e   d e s i g n   a n d   a c c e s s i n g   o f   t h e   d
a t a b a s e   s y s t e m   b y   d i f f e r e n t departments of the institution may be another
major challenge as each department has access todifferent aspects of the institution
database system. The system development time might be
much because of the comple#ity of the system which includes online payment, the 
information andnews section, the Student Services $ Admin section, student
welfare section and other sectionsinvolved in the portal. There are so many
aspects to the design which would probably prolongt h e s y s t e m
development time. Another major challenge to this design is the
i n t e g r a t i o n of  

 
e#isting system. It might be very difficult to blend an e#isting ins
t i t u t i o n   a d m i n i s t r a t i o n a l structure into a new technology.
AIMS:
 This project work is aimed at designing an application which would
meet the student%sand the institution%s administrational needs in terms
of solving the issues of student%s courseregistration, announcing and
informing students and other staffs time and dates of events andactivities,
assisting students with fees payment and other features.
OBJECTIVES:
 The major objective of this research is designing a mobile application
thatwould solve several students and administration of an institution related
problems.

ABSTRACT
Student )ortal is a private domain web portal which is being developed
for the *ollege.
The portal acts as an information center and can also be said to be a bridge of com
munication between the students, faculties and the institution administration. )roces
ses associated withcourse registrations, student information and the likes have
always been a manual process whichr e " u i r e s a l o t of p a p e r w o r k a n d
c o u l d s o m e t i m e s b e a c u m b e r s o m e a n d t i r i n g t a s k f or
t h e  personnel in charge. The manual process sometimes leads to time wasting, im
peding of dutiese s p e c i a l l y f or t h e s t a f f s a n d e v e n o n t h e s i d e of t h e
s t u d e n t s s o m e t i m e s . T h i s p r o j e c t w o r k   therefore eliminates or
reduces the error of missing information details of students,
courseregistration issues and other issues embedded with student data
and college information. Theactual purpose of designing the system is to
make the organi+ational process get speed up. Theapplication is also
security oriented and gets associated within the system as the general structureof
accessibility is fairly demandable. The students can just get on to the
portal to know anyinformation that is of importance to their academics.
The students can also have referentialinformation related to the normal
structure of their courses, semesters and time tables of thee#amination.
The portal also provides the accessibility towards the provision of old
"uestion papers and their answers along with the academic materials
that is given by the different department.
